Robert Edward Vore (1925-2025) passed away in peace 12-26-2025.
Bob was born to Hugh and Edith Vore on March 5, 1925, and was the brother to Ellen, Louise, and Clarice, all of whom he loved dearly.
He spent his childhood in East Chicago, IN and graduated from Roosevelt High School in 1942.
In 1942 he attended Indiana University and enlisted in the United States Navy in 1943. In the Navy he enrolled in Medical School and attended Depauw University to complete his medical school.
After completion of medical school, he became a US Navy Corpsman at the Great Lakes Naval Hospital in Great Lakes, IL.
My father completed General Surgery residency in 1950 and went on to become a US Navy General Surgeon during the Korean War. He served upon the hospital ship REPOSE during the conflict.
He returned to Indianapolis after the war and completed his Anesthesia residency in 1954.
Dad became assistant head of the Anesthesia program at IU Wishard in 1954 and eventually joined Methodist as an anesthesiologist in 1955.
In 1957 he joined Community Hospital as an anesthesiologist and continued to practice there until he retired in 2004.
Dad met the love of his life, Mary Ann Murray, a nurse, at the Roudebush VA hospital. They were later married in 1953 at St. Phillip Neri Catholic Church.
My Father is survived by his 4 children- Scott (Pam), Sally, Nancy and Mike.
He was the loving grandfather to 6 grandchildren- J.R, Drew, Abby, Andrew, Joey, and Katie and 9 great-grandchildren.
My father was a daily reminder of hard work, humor, generosity and kindness. He was constantly amazed when others would show him kindness not realizing how much kindness he had himself bestowed upon others through the years.
Dad loved to compete and loved, even more, to win. He was always a champion of the underdog in sports and in life. He loved to tease others and could be relentless in his efforts.
Dad will be greatly missed by his family, friends and acquaintances but we are all heartened to know that he is once again joined with his loving wife, Mary Ann.
The family requests that in lieu of flowers, donations be sent to Wheeler Mission, PO Box 3085 Indianapolis, IN, 46206, in memory of our father-thank you.
Visitation will be held Tuesday January 6th at Flanner Buchanan-Oaklawn Memorial Gardens (Conner Suite), 9700 Allisonville Rd, Indianapolis from 9-10:30am. Funeral services will begin there at 10:30am. Online condolences may be shared at www.flannerbuchanan.com.
