Robert Ray "Bob" Walters passed away on May 12, 2024. He was 88 years old.
Bob was born on November 20, 1935 in Palo Alto to Ogden "Pik" and Beulah "Billie" Kienitz Walters. Bob's early life was spent in Palo Alto before moving to Siskiyou County. Bob graduated from Yreka High School in 1955, where he excelled in sports, an overall athlete, but his favorite was football. Bob played football for Shasta College in Redding. Bob married Barbara Lee Lohman on November 25, 1956. Together they had three children, Kermith, Kellie and Kenny.
Bob enjoyed fishing, watching 49er football and a good steak, but his claim to fame was his love of model railroading. He had a massive collection of all things trains. He built whole towns around model railroads, which he enjoyed sharing with everyone. Bob was a long time member of the Siskiyou Model Railroaders where he made many good friends over the years. Bob was a proud 52 year member of the Free and Accepted Masons of Yreka, and also a 52 year member of the Yreka Elks Lodge.
Bob worked hard and had many jobs around Siskiyou County, from farming, Boyd and Franson, Mount Shasta Milling Company and Yreka Western Railroad. Bob retired from the Siskiyou County Road Department after 38 years as a mechanic, and then worked 10 years for George Mott Trucking.
Bob was many things, and if you knew Bob, you know he never met a stranger. His laugh was contagious and he told the best jokes. He had a knack for making friends easily and making all friends feel like his best friend.
Bob loved his family and would make a point of telling them he loved them and showing them, from making handmade baby cradles to lending a hand on any project. Bob gave his family nicknames and always greeted them with their special name and a hug.
Bob will be greatly missed by his family and friends: his wife of 67 years, Barbara; his children, Kermith (Shawn) Walters, Kellie (Bryan) Mott and Kenny (Sherri) Walters; grandchildren Joshua Mott, Robbie (Danyel) Mott, Janessa (Michael) Weingand, Jared (Jaice) Walters and Cheyenne Walters; nine great grandchildren, Ian Mott, Kayden Mott, Bailey Mott, Paislie Mott, Addison Mott, Kenley Mott, Millie Mott, Alina Weingand and Layton Walters; a brother, James (Alvia) Walters; a brother-in-law Bill Lohman, and numerous nieces, nephews and cousins. Bob was preceded in death by his parents and a brother, Gary Walters. Bob was met in heaven by his best friend, Everett.
To honor Bob's wishes, there will be no services.
