Robert L. Weaver, beloved husband, father, grandfather, brother, and faithful servant of God, transitioned peacefully into eternal rest on June 16, 2025. Born on December 21, 1938, in Chapel Hill, North Carolina to the late Reverend Preston R. Weaver, Sr. and Clara F. Weaver.
Robert, affectionately known as "Bob," was a proud graduate of Lincoln High School, Class of 1956. While there, he excelled both academically and athletically serving as co-captain of the Lincoln High Tigers football team. After graduation, he attended college in Tennessee before returning to Chapel Hill to work alongside his family at the well-known Weaver Shoe Shop.
At an early age, Robert joined St. Paul AME Church in Chapel Hill, where his extraordinary gift for singing was recognized and encouraged. He later formed the gospel group Bob Weaver and The Chapel Hill Singers, ministering through music across North Carolina and beyond. His powerful voice and unwavering spirit opened doors for him to travel and sing with many renowned gospel groups, including the legendary Blind Boys of Alabama.
Following in the footsteps of his father, Robert answered the call to ministry and was ordained as a pastor. He faithfully served as pastor of The Lifeline Church, touching lives through his preaching, leadership, and commitment to God's word. His presence will be sorely missed, but his voice, legacy, and the light he shared through music will forever resonate.
Robert is survived by his devoted wife, Maggie Weaver of Portland, OR; children: Sharron Weaver of Chapel Hill, NC; Sandra Chavious of Knightdale, NC; Sherwood Weaver and Sheryl Weaver, both of Chapel Hill, NC; and Shelton (Shonek) Weaver of Pittsboro, NC; Diane (Erik) Harrison, Atlanta, GA; Curtis Willis of Portland, OR.
He also leaves behind his loving siblings: Helen Briggs of Clinton, MD; James (Sarah) Weaver of Carrboro, NC; Vickie Weaver of Chapel Hill, NC; and Edward Weaver of Portland, OR; and his uncle, Fred (Sherdenia) Weaver of Chapel Hill, NC.
He also leaves behind 19 grandchildren, 17 great-grandchildren, and a host of nieces, nephews, extended family, and dear friends.
He was preceded in death by his parents, Reverend Preston R. Weaver, Sr. and Clara F. Weaver, and brothers: Preston Jr., Lawrence, Patrick, and Michael Weaver.
Robert's life was marked by faith, purpose, and song. His legacy of music, ministry, and love will continue to live on in the hearts of all who knew him.
"Well done, good and faithful servant." – Matthew 25:23
