He was born on March 9, 1933, in Worth Township, IL, to Benno F. and Kathline (Montz) Wernsman. He married Charlene M. Wagner on December 30, 1954 at St. Mary of Lourdes Catholic Church in Germantown Hills. She passed away on November 12, 2013. He then married Linda M. Kern on June 18, 2016 at St. Mary of Lourdes Catholic Church in Germantown Hills.
Surviving are his wife, Linda of Germantown Hills; sons, Brian (Debbie) Wernsman and Keith (Kriss) Wernsman both of Germantown Hills; daughter-in-law, Gayle Wernsman of Germantown Hills; step-children, Tammi (Bud) Vickery of Bellville, IL, John (Angie) Kern, Jr. of Washington, IL, and Matthew Kern of Aurora, CO; twelve grandchildren; five step-grandchildren; sixteen great-grandchildren; and siblings, Benno Wernsman, Jr. of Germantown Hills, Philip (Sandy) Wernsman of Rockford, IL, and Carol (Dennis) Miller of East Peoria, IL. He was preceded in death by his parents, two sons, David Wernsman and Paul Wernsman, granddaughter, Shae Michelle Wernsman, and sister, Joan Fandel.
Bob was a U.S. Army Veteran, serving during the Korean War and a member of St. Mary of Lourdes Catholic Church in rural Metamora. He was part-owner of Wernsman's Restaurant in Germantown Hills with Florentius Grebner and Benno Wernsman. Bob enjoyed flying, woodworking, and fishing. He was a groundskeeper for ICC. He loved to travel and never met a stranger.
A Funeral Mass will be held at 10:00 am on Saturday, April 5, 2025 at St. Mary of Lourdes Catholic Church with Father Eric Bolek officiating. Recitation of the Rosary will be held at 3:30 pm on Friday, April 4, 2025 at Mason Funeral Home Germantown Hills Chapel with visitation to follow from 4:00 pm until 7:00 pm. Burial will be in St. Mary of Lourdes Cemetery with military rites accorded. In lieu of flowers, memorials may be given to Veterans Helping Veterans, 1619 Resthaven Road, Peoria, IL 61615 or to St. Mary of Lourdes Catholic Church, 424 Lourdes Church Road, Metamora, IL 61548. Bob for a while worked with my wife at S&S license and we became friends, got together often and I always enjoyed his friendship, always in a good mood and happy attituded, He will be missed by many. May your many happy memories help you through this troubling time.
