Bob was born in Tacoma, Washington to Charles and Vivian West. He grew up with two sisters, Carolyn and Elizabeth, in the outskirts of Tacoma where his dad owned a grocery store/service station. As Bob grew older, he worked alongside his dad at the store stocking shelves and helping out however he could. In his spare time, Bob was an avid golfer and played brilliantly with his dad. Bob attended Lincoln High School in Tacoma where he was a trombone player in the school band and Varsity basketball athlete. Bob went on to attend Washington State University where he was a member of the Sigma Alpha Epsilon fraternity and received a bachelor's degree in economics.
After college graduation, Bob was drafted in the Army, and he served two years stationed in Germany. During his time in the Army, he was placed in the finance department and was awarded the Sharp Shooter Award! In 1963, Bob moved to California and joined the management team in Montgomery Wards where he met his future loving wife of nearly 60 years, Stephanie DeBari. They were married on February 6, 1966, in front of their family and friends at St Lawrence O'Toole Catholic Church in Oakland, California.
Soon thereafter, Bob and Stephanie started a family and raised their two beautiful daughters, Cristina and Gia, in Fremont where Stephanie currently resides. Bob loved his Sports! He was an avid Giants, 49'ers, Warriors and horse racing fan! If you didn't catch him at a 49'ers or with his friends and family or betting on the horses, you would undoubtedly see him supporting his teams on TV. He instilled his tremendous love of sports to his daughters and grandchildren.
Throughout the years, Bob and Stephanie travelled extensively to many different countries and all throughout the United States. Bob's absolute favorite trips were a river boat cruise through Russia and many trips throughout Italy, with Sicily topping the favorites list.
As Bob and Stephanie were raising their family, Bob's dad, Charles, started to get involved in Thoroughbred Horse Racing where he owned and raced many horses. Bob's family attended those horse races, and the sport quickly became Bob's passion that he carried with him until the end.
Bob's Family was his number one! He loved to be around his children and their families spending countless holidays, vacations and gatherings with them all!
Bob's love for wine has always been on full display by his countless trips to Napa Valley for wine tasting, wine blending, picking grapes, and purchasing wine. Bob was the quintessential wine connoisseur. He also enjoyed the countless lunches, walks, and talks with his friends who were an integral part of this life. As the kindest gentlemen, Bob never wanted to inconvenience anyone; never asking for help. He adored his daughters and was very proud of them, their success, and their accomplished families. He loved his five precious grandchildren and would shower them with his wisely advice.
Bob's is survived by his wife, Stephanie;, his two daughters, Cristina and Gia; his son-in-laws, Michael and Gregory; his five grandchildren, Alyssa, Alexander, Amanda, Zachary, and Sophia; his sister, Elizabeth; his nephew, Eric; his brothers-in-law, his sisters-in-law; his nieces and nephews.
