Robert Larry Whidby, born September 17, 1941, in Jackson, Georgia, passed away peacefully surrounded by loved ones. Robert was a proud graduate of Jackson High School, where he played high school football and formed friendships and memories that lasted a lifetime.

Robert lived a full and passionate life. He was an avid golfer and a longtime participant in the Atlanta Senior Tour. He loved the game dearly and spent many happy days on the course. A devoted Georgia Tech fan, Robert was a season ticket holder for more than 60 years — a commitment that showcased his loyalty and enthusiasm for Yellow Jacket football.

He served his country with honor in the National Guard, taking immense pride in his military career. That sense of duty and integrity carried through every part of his life.

Robert had a deep appreciation for the finer things he loved — especially Cadillac automobiles. He also had a soft spot for animals, especially cats, and cherished his beloved cat, “MAW,” named in honor of his late wife’s initials. At home, he found joy working in his yard, tending to his well-known tomato garden, where he always grew an abundance of tomatoes to share.

Robert is survived by his daughter, Amy Davis; his life companion, Cecilia Sanders; and his sister, Kay Gatlin. He is preceded in death by his beloved wife, Mary Ann.

A funeral service will be held on Saturday, December 13, 2025, at 12:00 p.m. at Thomas L Scroggs Funeral Directors. The visitation will  begin one hour prior to the service, The interment will be held at Forest Lawn Memorial Gardens in College Park.
