Robert Dennis Whitlock

Robert Dennis Whitlock of Raleigh, NC passed away on Saturday September 7, 2024, after a short illness, at UNC Rex hospital in Raleigh.
He is preceded by his Father, Russell Irving Whitlock, his Mother, Bessie Lee Swann Whitlock, his Brother, Russell Irving Whitlock II (aka Son) and his 2 Sisters, Carolyn Wolf Blumenthal, and Martha Ann Cobb.
He is survived by his Brother, Gary Thomas Whitlock III of Hubert, NC and his long time Partner, Peter Anthony Tickle of Raleigh, NC.
Robert was born in Hickory, NC in April 1943, where he grew up, going to Hickory High School, he went to the University of North Carolina at Chapel Hill getting a B.A. in classics and French. Later he would go to Florida State University getting a Masters in Latin in the class of 1973.
Robert taught Latin at Wolfson High School in Jacksonville, FL for nearly 4years, He kept in touch with many of his students. Robert made such an impression on his Students that they honored him in 2017, a moment he loved and remembered. In 1977Robert decided to go to Japan to teach English at the private school, Atomi Academy for Women. He worked there for over 13 years. Coming back to US and moving back to North Carolina. He went back to his first love, teaching Latin, at several local schools including Thales Academy, Cardinal Gibson Catholic high school, and substitute teaching for Wake County. As well as tutoring students.
One of the things that gave Robert pleasure was, planting trees at the Meredith Townhomes dog park in 2009, he would spend lots of time with his Beloved dog Parker and was friends with do many people and their puppies.
He was a member of the Rue Sans Famille HOA. Where he lived since 2009.
Robert lived there with his long time Partner Peter Tickle and there dog Anika.
