Sonny was born on July 9, 1950, in Atoka, Oklahoma to Orvel and Ella Mae (Mills) Wilson.
Sonny was a man of many virtues, with a life marked by dedication and service. He joined the Air Force on April 17, 1969, in Oklahoma City, Oklahoma. During his four years of service, he was recognized as a Senior Airman Sergeant, a testament to his commitment and hard work. Following his military service, he obtained a GED and embarked on a career as a truck driver, a role that took him on many journeys and adventures. He spent 15 years with Dolese as a cement truck driver, also worked at East OK and later at Big Mac for 9 years before retiring.
Beyond his professional life, Sonny was a man who found joy in the simple pleasures of life. He was an avid outdoorsman who loved hunting and fishing, often sharing these passions with friends and family. His love for these activities was only surpassed by the love he had for his children and grandchildren, who were the most important part of his life. The time spent with them, whether on outdoor excursions or just being together, was cherished by Sonny and will be fondly remembered by his loved ones.
Sonny is survived by a loving family who will continue to honor his legacy: his son, Thomas Wilson, and his daughter, Tammy or as he would call her "Whoobus" Wilson, both of McAlester; his granddaughters, Kiara "Buve" Harper and Kamaya "Hummingbird" Montgomery, also of McAlester; his brothers, Raymond Wilson and wife Crystal, Roger Wilson and wife Deana, Delbert Wilson all of McAlester; sisters, Rosetta McFall, and Orvella Suit of McAlester; special friends: Jeanie and Ollie Liter and Lawanda Iseman; numerous nieces, nephews, cousins, other family members, and a host of friends.
He was preceded in death by his parents: Orvel and Ella Mae Wilson; his sisters: Lena Herron and Billie Suit; his nephew: Randall Wilson; his brothers-in-law: Mickey Suit and Don Suit; and a sister-in-law: Patricia Wilson.
