Richard A. "Ricky" Young

Richard Allen "Ricky" Young, age 74, of McAlester, passed away Sunday morning, February 8, 2026, in McAlester.

The family will greet friends from 6:00 p.m. to 8:00 p.m. on Friday, February 13, 2026, at Bishop Funeral Service and Crematory.

A funeral service will be held at 11:00 a.m. on Saturday, February 14, 2026, at Bishop Chapel of Memories, officiated by Rev. Mike Ross. Burial will follow at Choate Prairie Cemetery.

Pallbearers will be Gregory Young, Robbie Hance, Johnny Allen, Kevin Martin, Joey Young, Fyfer Mitchell, and Marilyn (Manos) Carrion.

Honorary pallbearers will be Ron Thornhill, Keith Coffee, Bob Chapman, David Pullum, and Gary Vanlandingham.

Richard was born on September 16, 1951, in Indianola, Oklahoma, to Howard N. and Florene (Russell) Young. He was raised in Indianola and graduated from Indianola High School in 1969. He proudly served in the United States Army Reserves for seven years.

Following graduation, Richard moved to McAlester and began his career at Clifton's Grocery, later serving as assistant manager at Humpty Dumpty Grocery Store. He worked in the grocery industry for 38 years, including 15 years with Cash Savers Grocery Store, where he retired as store manager. After retirement, he continued working for ten years with the Oklahoma Department of Corrections at OSP, serving as a kitchen supervisor.

Richard married Genalyn Redillas on September 22, 2002, in Indianola, Oklahoma.

Throughout his life, Richard was deeply involved in his community. He was a member of the Elks Lodge, SERTOMA International Club, and the Lions Club, where he organized annual fundraisers and volunteered tirelessly. He also dedicated several years to maintaining the grounds at Choate Prairie Cemetery.

Richard had a lifelong passion for aviation. He earned his pilot's license in 1972 and owned two aircraft during his flying career.

He was preceded in death by his parents, Howard and Florene Young; brothers, Jeff Young and Ronnie Young; sister, Sharon McDaniel; and son, Daillson Young.

He is survived by his wife, Genalyn Young; daughter, Kimmy Young; sons, Gregory Young and wife Rachel, Robbie Hance and wife Holli; grandchildren, Cora Young, Nick Hance, Madison Hance, and Larick Hance; sister, Debbie Young; nieces and nephews, Joey Young, Jeffery Young, Jr., Melanie Clark, Brian West, Natalie Russell, Crystal Stuller, Jamie Standstipher, Dina McDaniel; and numerous other family members and friends.

Richard will be remembered for his contagious smile, generous spirit, and his deep love for his family, who were truly his pride and joy.
