Mr. Robert L. "Bob" Withers, Jr., 95, of Hogansville, passed away Saturday, October 21, 2023, at the home of his daughter in Thomaston.
Mr. Withers was born March 27, 1928, in Montgomery, AL, son of the late Robert Lee Withers and Eugenia Thompkins Withers. A 1950 graduate of Alabama Polytechnic Institute, now Auburn University, he was a veteran of service in the U.S. Army, serving in Japan after World War II, lived in Birmingham from 1964 until making his home in Hogansville in 1992, and retired from Alabama Power Company as an electrical engineer. He had served as a leader for Boy Scout Troop 93 at Oakmont Presbyterian Church in Hoover, AL, was a member of the Order of the Arrow, was a member of Corinth United Methodist Church, and was a lay speaker in the Methodist Church. He was an avid photographer and enjoyed reading and Bible study.
Survivors include his daughter, Becky and William Watson, Jr.; grandson, Will and Christen Watson; great-granddaughter, Ansley Kathryn Watson, all of Thomaston; and several nieces and nephews. In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by his wife, Bettie Withers; son, Samuel L. "Sam" Withers, and great-granddaughter, Elizabeth Jane Watson.
The funeral service will be conducted at 2:00 p.m., Wednesday, October 25, in the Chapel of Claude A. McKibben and Sons Funeral Home in Hogansville.The Reverend Kevin Murdoch will officiate and interment will be in the Corinth Cemetery.
The family will receive friends at the funeral home from 1:00 p.m. until 2:00 p.m., Wednesday.
