Robert Thomas Witt

Robert Thomas Witt, age 91, passed peacefully at home surrounded by his family in Virginia Beach on August 15, 2025. Robert was born on July 21, 1934 in Chicago, Illinois. He attended Marquette University where he studied engineering. He served 26 years in the US Navy, retiring as a lieutenant commander in 1976. He built a second career installing tennis courts in the Tidewater area. He was a skilled carpenter and spent his last years with his wife Sue building bird and fairy houses to give away to neighbors and friends. Robert was a dedicated member of the Knights of Columbus for thirty years and a devout Catholic.

Robert is survived by his loving wife Sue Witt, sister Sue Donaldson of La Conner, Washington, devoted son Robert G. Witt and wife Kim of Youngsville, NC, son Steve Witt of North Carolina, Stepdaughters, Lisa Tucker of Christiansburgh, VA, Lori Goldwag and husband Stuart of Virginia Beach and Cheryl McGruder and husband Jon of Virginia Beach. Grandpa Bob was grandfather to his five grandchildren, Alexine, Jamie, Jordan, Tucker & Dylan and two great-grandchildren Wyatt and Stella.

He was loved. He will be missed.

Services will be held at Holy Family Catholic Church located at 1279 N Great Neck Rd, Virginia Beach, VA 23454. Knights of Columbus Chalice ceremony will begin at 10:40 am, Family Eulogy at 10:55am, and Funeral Mass to begin at 11:00am with military honors to follow. Robert's final resting place will be in the Columbarium located at the church.
