Robert Wright Obituary

Robert was a 1944 graduate of Harrison Township High School. He joined the Army in 1945 and proudly served during WWII with the 73rd Ordnance Depot in the Occupation of Japan. Robert was employed at the Muncie Post Office as a letter carrier for 37 years. During that time, he served as President of Branch 98 and President of the Indiana State Association of Letter Carriers. Robert was a member of the Garden of Gethsemane Church where he served as a long-time board member.
He was also a member of the National Association of Retired Federal Employees. All who knew him experienced his kidding sense of humor and wit. Bob never met a stranger.
He is survived by his 3 daughters: Judy VanFleet (Warner), Cheri Ridley (Keith), and JoEllen Pendel (Marc); 6 grandchildren: Michael VanFleet (Shannon), Ryan VanFleet (Wendy), Bob Ridley (Nic), Adam Ridley, Andy Porter, and Megan Caristi (Anthony); 8 great-grandchildren; one sister, Helen Boggs; and many nieces and nephews.
He was preceded in death by his wife of 70 years, Doris; his parents; 6 sisters: Betty Morrical, Ruth Turner, Virginia Richards, Jane Gibson, Mary Fight, and Sally Sumner; and 1 brother Paul Wright.
The Wright family would like to thank the staff of Morrison Woods for their excellent care of Bob during the past five years.
The Meeks Mortuary and Crematory 415 E. Washington St., Muncie, IN 47305 will handle arrangements.

Family and friends may call on Tuesday, May 7, 2024, 10:00 A.M. until 12:00 P.M. and funeral services at 12:00 noon, with Pastor Kate Muhlbaier officiating all at The Meeks Mortuary. Burial with Military honors will follow at Elm Ridge Cemetery.
Memorial contributions may be made to the Garden at Gethsemane Church in Muncie, thegardenmuncie.org.

Robert has had the most positive attitude when he came to BINGO tournaments and when I passed out his ice water. He was just a wonderful man who lived a good life he could live.
