Robert Leroy Wright Sr., age 73, of Loretto, TN, passed away on January 7, 2025, at his home, surrounded by his beloved family. He was born on March 13, 1951, in Detroit, MI, he was the son of the late Okey Earl Sr. and Dolores Joan Townsend Wright.
Robert's dedication to his country was evident during his four years of honorable service in the United States Army. Following his military service, he embarked on a remarkable journey in life, marrying the love of his life, Barbara Jean Byrd, on August 4, 1972. Together, they built a wonderful life filled with love and commitment.
For many years, Robert poured his heart into his work at Sharp Transport as both a truck driver and diesel mechanic, earning the respect and admiration of his colleagues. Yet, it was in his leisure time that his playful spirit shone brightest. Whether he was perfecting his golf swing, crafting birdhouses from popsicle sticks, or engaging in spirited games of cards – both in person and on his computer – Robert embraced life fully.
Most importantly, Robert's unwavering faith in Jesus was a cornerstone of his life, guiding him through every chapter he faced. He will be lovingly remembered for his warm heart, strong spirit, and the joy he brought to those around him.
Robert is survived by his wife, Barbara Jean Byrd Wright; son, Robert Leroy Wright Jr.; daughter, Bettina Wright (SteFan); sister, Rebecca Joan Howard (Gary); grandchildren, Caleb Joshua Wright, Austin Micheal Brown, and Timothee Frank Brown; and great grandchildren, Lynnix Andrews, Brayden Cromwell, Laken Wright, Maizy Wright, Riggins Brown, Ramsay Brown, and Waylon Brown.
In addition to his parents, Robert was preceded in death by his daughter, Rachel Wright, and brothers, Okey Wright Jr., Jimmy Wright, and Timothy Wright.
At the family’s request Robert Leroy Wright Sr. will be cremated with Shackelford Funeral Directors assisting the family.
