Roberta J. Frey

Roberta J. Frey, 85, of East Peoria, passed away peacefully on December 20, 2023, at Washington Senior Living. She was born, at home, in Pershing, IA on May 1, 1938, to Alfred John "AJ" and Myrtle (Fry) Moses. She married James L. Frey on February 15, 1959, and they both dedicated themselves to each other for 65 years; he survives.
She is survived by her three children, Susan (Randy) Collins of Houston, TX, James Frey of Colorado Springs, CO, and Sharon Frey of Schaumburg, and two grandchildren: Jonathan and Elizabeth Collins, of Houston.
She was preceded in death by her parents, grandparents Archibald and Deborah (Richards) Moses and Joseph Fry and Mary Ann (McMoran) Fry, one brother, Larry Moses, two sisters, Lodema Holcomb and Jeanne Powers, nephew Kevin Powers, grandnephew William "Patrick" Hanley and grandniece Melissa Cann.
Roberta moved with her family to Burlington, Iowa when she was four years old. She graduated from Burlington Community High School in 1956. After graduation, she moved to Peoria and worked for Caterpillar Tractor Company where she met her husband, Jim. She worked in the offices of Spectrum Graphics, the Printing Supply Company, Dove Equipment, United Farm, and Gregg Florist where she worked as Office Manager and bookkeeper until her retirement in 2002.
She was an avid reader, expert crypto quote solver, life-long learner, and family genealogist. She was an active member of both Fondulac Congressional and First United Methodist churches in East Peoria. She volunteered at the church food pantry, East Peoria Festival of Lights stringing parade floats, and served as an adult literacy tutor. She enjoyed crafting and sewing, especially quilting. She was a member of the Peoria Gems of the Prairie Quilting Guild for which she was honored for her contributions of baby quilts to Peoria hospital NICU units.
A Funeral Service will be held at 10:00 a.m. on Thursday, December 28, 2023, at Gary Deiters Funeral Home & Cremation Services in East Peoria, with visitation from 9:00 a.m. until the time of service. Reverend Krista Price will officiate. The burial will follow at Fondulac Cemetery in East Peoria.
