Roberta Jean “Jeanie” Gormley, 82, of Grinnell, KS, died Wednesday, March 26, 2025, at Hays Medical Center.
Jeanie was born in 1942, in Denver, CO, to Robert and Elsie Stephens. She attended two country schools growing up, then graduated from Grinnell High School in 1960.
She married Jerry Gormley in 1961. They lived in Grinnell briefly before moving to the farm. Jeanie was a hard-working farm wife and a dedicated mother of three children. She was best known for her amazing cooking, gardening and sewing for everyone in the area. Her faith was the foundation of her life, guiding her through every challenge.
Jeanie was preceded in death by her parents; her husband Jerry; brother Stan; niece Sheena Stephens; her grandson Collin Gormley and many other family members.
She is survived by her children, Shari (Don) Burks, Steve (Melissa Shupe) and Jim Gormley; siblings, Sister Judy Stephens, Mary Lou (Jerry) VanEaton, Bob (Cheryl) Stephens, and JoAnne (Harold) Crispin and sister-in-law, Lisa Stephens. She also had many grandchildren and great grandchildren.
Jeanie will be deeply missed by her family, friends and all who were blessed to know her. Though she is no longer with us her “spunky” spirit will live on in the hearts of all the lives she touched.
Visitation is from 9-10:30 a.m., with a Rosary at 10:30 a.m., followed by the Funeral Mass at 11:00 a.m., Wednesday, April 2, 2025, at the Immaculate Conception Catholic Church, Grinnell, with burial in the church cemetery. Memorials may be made to Immaculate Conception Church for Masses and sent in care of Baalmann Mortuary, PO Box 391, Colby, KS 67701. For information or condolences visit baalmannmortuary.com
