Roberta Hinch, 78, of Parowan, Utah passed away on August 15, 2024 in St. George, Utah surrounded by her family. She was born on November 29, 1945 to Carmen Duarte in Globe, Arizona.
Roberta joined The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-Day Saints after being taught the gospel by missionaries at 14 years old. Being a member of the LDS church was one of the greatest blessings in her life. She loved the gospel of Jesus Christ, and she had a strong testimony of the Plan of Salvation and missionary work. On July 5, 1968, she married the love of her life, Carl Hinch, in Banning, California. The wedding was officiated by Bishop Jim Beal. During their 56-year marriage, they had 5 children, 14 grandchildren, and 6 great grandchildren. Roberta's first job in Banning was at the shirt factory for many years. She later became a Bilingual Aide for Banning Unified School District until she retired. Roberta always had a strong desire to increase her spiritual and temporal knowledge. She loved to study the scriptures and read books about church leaders. Her love for learning new things was proven by her courage to return to school years later after dropping out of high school. She earned an Associate Degree from Mt. San Jacinto College and a bilingual certificate from the Medical Terminology program at Mt. San Antonio College. Roberta had many hobbies which included thrift shopping, watching scary movies, sewing, listening to ranchera music, sharing family stories, and researching family history. She was an excellent cook; she loved making homemade chile verde and tamales for her family and friends. Nobody could leave Roberta's home without being fed. However, her greatest joy was spending time with her family.
She is survived by her husband, Carl Hinch, of Parowan, Utah, her 5 children and their spouses; Dena and Dave Nyreen of Cody, Wyoming, Pamela and Estevan Valencia of Banning, California, Julie and Jason Smith of Banning, California, Jenell and Ryan McPhilips of Long Beach, California, and Robert and Jennifer Hinch of Banning, California. In the summer of 2015, Roberta and Carl moved to Parowan, Utah where Roberta resided the remainder of her years in their dream home they built together.
Roberta had 9 brothers and 3 sisters. She is survived by her siblings; Chris Franco, Patricia Flores (Eugene), Gerald Franco (Melanie), Alan Franco, Ernest Franco, Elizabeth Martinez (Guillermo), and Jose Montez. She was preceded in death by her mother, Carmen Durate, her brothers, Frank Franco, George Franco, Lionel Franco, James Franco, and her sister, Maria Louisa Franco.
Funeral services will be held on August 24, 2024 at The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-Day Saints in Summit, Utah at 55 E. Main St. The viewing will be held at 9:00 am and the service will take place at 10:00 am. Interment will be in the Summit City Cemetery under the direction of Southern Utah Mortuary. A livestreaming of the services can be viewed, and online condolences may be left at www.mortuary.org.
