New Albany –
Roberta "Bobbie" Millen Rakestraw died as she lived, loving and trusting in Jesus. She passed away on July 21, 2024 surrounded by her family. She was born on February 28, 1937 to her yankee parents in Columbus, Mississippi. She was the youngest of three sisters, Norma Morgan and Gloria Wade. Her family moved to New Albany in 1945. Bobbie finished high school in New Albany and met Clay Rakestraw on February 19, 1955 and married him May 25, 1956. She enjoyed traveling, spending time with friends and family, and loving Jesus and loving America. They had four children, Timothy Rakestraw (Susan), Walter "Wally" Rakestraw, Nickey Rakestraw (Joyce) and Christy Rakestraw Pitts; five grandchildren, Starla Ruth (Jason), Skyla Harwell (Will), Sunni Rakestraw, Claden Rakestraw (Morgan) and Amber Rakestraw; three great grandchildren, Zoee Rakestraw, Reese Ruth and Kylee Hutchens and one on the way; two great-great grandchildren, Keller and Madden Rakestraw. Bobbie was known by her grands as "Nana" and Clay as "Namps." She was preceded in death by her parents, Robert and Hellen Chronic Millen; her husband, Clay Rakestraw; a son, Wally Rakestraw; and a granddaughter, Sunni Rakestraw. A visitation will be held on Tuesday, July 23, 2024 from 5:00 p.m. until 8:00 p.m. and again on Wednesday, July 24 from 10:00 a.m. until funeral service time at 11:00 a.m. All times will be at United Funeral Service. Bro. Scott Bryant will officiate. Burial will be at Pleasant Hill Cemetery. United Funeral Service is honored to be entrusted with these arrangements. Pallbearers will be Claden Rakestraw, Jason Ruth, Reese Ruth, Will Harwell, Joseph Cagle, Stoney Hardy, and Terrell Simms. Honorary pallbearers will be Jay Wade, Chip Wade and Bill Morgan, Jr. A special thank you to caregiver, Bernice MacDavis.
