Obituary published on Legacy.com by Watkins Heritage Chapel - Kansas City on Sep. 19, 2024.
Roberta L Reid lovingly known as Mother, Daughter, Sister, Aunt, Grandmother & Friend was the center of our lives. Roberta was the youngest of 4, born 11/19/1935 to Pauline Hopkins & Robert Reid who preceded her in death.
Roberta was called to Heaven peacefully on 09/08/2024 at Kansas City Hospice House. On that day, Roberta joined her heavenly family who had gone before her: Samuel L. Reid, 2nd born Son, (Sam), Both Parents, two sisters: Rosa Kemp, Harrietta Nicholson, One brother: Ernest (Chummy) Hopkins, great aunt: Hattie Robinson, brother-in-law: Charles L (Buddy) Nicholson Sr, nephews: Charles (Budgie) Nicholson Jr, Robert L Nicholson, & Ernest Hopkins Jr.
Roberta was educated in the
Kansas City, MO. School district. Her passion for healthcare led her to further her education where she obtained her CNA and Medical Aid License. Roberta began her professional career at St. Joseph Hospital for 10 years. Changing her career path she was employed with Plastic Sales as a production worker for 35 years until retirement. Roberta always kept a part-time job B&G maintenance, selling Avon products and working as a Senior Companion. Her greatest love was being a Senior Companion, caring for her sister & best friend Harrietta Nicholson which was her last and final client.
Roberta known for her come back lines & fierce spirit of getting things done her way, rather it being taking a bus ride or just taking her daily walk really cherished life. On January 26, 2015 the world changed for the beautiful soul we knew as Mommy, Aunt Bert, Grandmother, Sister & Friend. On her way to care for her sister, as she walked to the bus top, Roberta was involved in a major accident. Stricken with a head injury and later dementia ended the things she loved doing the most and she was no longer able to fulfill GODS plan.
Roberta was good for a laugh and she could be so funny. She also didn't hold her tongue about much. She was known for speaking her mind and saying what she felt, when she felt it and how she felt, period!
Roberta confessed that becoming the Mother of Kellye, Samuel, Rose, and Robert was her greatest accomplished in her life. Being Momma was a struggle at time but also her joy. There was nothing Roberta would not do for my babies including, working multiple jobs at once and being mother and father.
During Roberta's life journey GOD surrounded Roberta with wonderful Angels, Gloria Newsom (Care Giver) & Lisa Handson (Care Giver). She also loved the care and support she received from, Erayna Stringer & Symphony Supports LLC (Care Agency), Helping Hands (Adult Day Care), John Kurtz (Attorney), Sherree Lounce (Beautician) and St. Marks Church.
Roberta leaves to mourn, 3 children and 9 Grandchildren, Kellye (Dennis Sr, Timmeka), *Samuel deceased*(Briea), Rosa (Dwayne Sr, Latasha, Essence), and Robert (Kandice, Robert Jr, Dontae), 13 Great Grandchildren Dennis Jr, Desirae, Jordan, Baeliey, Aubrie, Cyncere, Harmony, Heaven, Dwayne Jr, Savion, Ryleigh, Amari, Taylon and a wide host of loving family and beautiful friends. With, Grace, GOD has reached down and lifted Roberta L. Reid up to put on a New Robe and March into Glory. Roberta in you GOD has indeed found a treasure. AMEN!
