Roberta "Itty" Mary Whitecow "B'eskontah Ithay", 89 years old, born Feb. 13, 1935, passed away July 26, 2024. A wake and rosary will be held Tuesday, July 30, 2024 at the Chief Nosey Gym in Lodge Pole, MT at 5pm. A wake will be held Wednesday, July 31, 2024, at the Boushie Family Homestead. A funeral service will be held Thursday, August 1, 2024, at the Boushie Family Homestead Cemetery in Lodge Pole at 11 am. First and foremost, Roberta "Itty" Whitecow Werk was considered the matriarch of her immediate and closest relatives and was always there for her community helping and praying for those in need. her nieces and nephews loved her like a mother. Itty's favorite passion was spending time with her family, horseback riding and attending community and school sporting events. she was chosen as the grand marshall for numerous years carrying the American flag on horseback in the annual hays powwow and other community parades. She loved riding horses up to a few years before her passing. if you have ever stayed at her home, you would wake up to her loudly singing gospel music and rattling dishes at the crack of dawn. She loved to sit and listen to her sisters play guitar and sing. Itty also had numerous occupations which included waitressing, secretary treasurer for the BIA and the hays urban rural. She was also a school bus driver/custodian, team bus driver, field trip driver and drove firefighters during the fire seasons for decades. Itty started her food stand over 40 years ago at the request of her mother Josephine to feed everyone with or without money and never turned anyone away. She enjoyed watching her children work and cook together and dance. From that, itty began her breakfast making business and sold breakfast to the entire community just enough to earn money to buy supplies and gas for deliveries so they had something to eat. she loved to travel and had been all over the United States coast to coast, Canada, and Mexico. if her sisters couldn't get ahold of her, they knew she was traveling somewhere. in her down time, she loved to read the bible, Louis Lamore and archie comic books and attended church services where she was a lay minister and loved going to prayer meetings. Itty also participated in sundances supporting her family and friends. She brought all of her sisters and their families together for cookouts. During these events, itty loved to laugh with her sisters and enjoyed their presence immensely, this included going to bingo with them. Itty was respected by everyone and an extremely hard-working woman all of her life. She was humble, caring, strong and harsh in her own loving ways to make her entire family strong enough to get through life. This is all she wanted. Now, who are we all going to turn to? Our mother, grandmother, aunt, wife, sister, friend will now be there in spirit and prayers when we need her. We will remember and miss her dearly. If we forgot anything or anyone, we are sorry, just know that it was extremely hard and heartbreaking to write this for her.
