Nellie Werk Obituary

Obituary published on Legacy.com by Allen Funeral Home and Crematory on Dec. 5, 2025.
Nellie Mae Werk, 90, of Bloomington, passed away on Friday, December 5, 2025, at Stonecroft Health Campus in Bloomington.

Born on November 13, 1935, in Campbellsville, Kentucky, she was the daughter of the late Elbert Ray and Maudie (Carnes) Long. She was married to the love of her life, James Eugene Werk, for 47 years and 3 days before his passing on June 26, 2009.

Nellie began working at just seven years old. She worked in Indy for nine years before coming to Bloomington in 1965. She worked for BNB for thirty years. She enjoyed being able to help her community- she helped with outreach for Shriners Hospital and served as Deacon at St. Paul United Methodist Church. It was always important to her to "try to be a good neighbor".

Nellie is survived by her children, Karen Sue (Mike Edgeworth) Weinzetl and James Daniel (Linda) Werk; 23 grandchildren; 5 great grandchildren; 3 great-great grandchildren; numerous step-grandchildren; 7 step-great-grandchildren; and close and caring friends, David & Tammy Brannon, Valda Hillary, and Carolyn Comingore.

She was preceded in death by her parents; husband; and children, Danny Eugene Jeffers and Sharon Kay Jeffers.

A graveside service for Nellie will be held at 3:30 p.m. on Thursday, December 11, 2025, at Valhalla Memory Gardens in Bloomington. Allen Funeral Home was entrusted to the care of these arrangements.

In lieu of flowers, donations may be made in Nellie's honor to the Shriner's Children Hospital; St. Jude's Children Hospital; or Free Masons Lodge #22.
