Roberto Calixto Obituary

Obituary published on Legacy.com by Riverside Funeral Home - Albuquerque on Sep. 12, 2024.
Roberto G. Calixto, Sr. passed away at age 86, on Friday, August 30th, 2024.
Bob or "Dad", as he was affectionately known as by many, was born and raised in the Philippines. He joined the US Navy. He met and married Mary Ellen and started a family. He cross-trained into the Air Force and retired with 21 years of service, the majority of which was as a jet aircraft mechanic. Bob became a naturalized citizen in July of 1979. Mary Ellen and the kids were so proud of his hard-earned accomplishment. He married his second wife, Barbara, in 2010, blending their families together.
Bob was a jack of all trades, there was very little he couldn't do. He was very proficient in calligraphy. He was an excellent cook; he was the family barber and hairdresser. Bob loved woodworking, gardening, and tinkering with just about everything. Bob also loved to dance and was very good at it. Mary Ellen and their daughters used to vie over who gets to waltz with him. Bob would spar all the time with his son, Bobby; he always kept Bobby on his toes.
Once the grandchildren starting coming along, Bob was in hog heaven. Mary Ellen used to call him a "lollipop" because he was such a sucker for babies! He always blessed all the babies on their foreheads, even their moms before they were born. It was obvious that babies were his happy place. It didn't stop with the babies, though, even his children, no matter how old they got, would still get a blessing from him in the same way.
Bob was a very faithful servant of The Lord, a man of God. He was the true definition of unconditional love, he was a living, breathing example of God's pure love and light. He had the most infectious smile and people gravitated to it. Bob had a very playful child-like heart with a spirit to match; he was never afraid to be a silly goofball. Even after long hard day's work, he was
never too tired to play with his children. He and his kids had their own way of interacting and talking to each other; to some it sounded like gibberish; it was playful banter, jokes in strange accents, corny dance moves, and lots of pranks.
Bob is preceded in death by his parents, Elvira and Domingo, as well as his brother Vicente and sister Carmen. Bob is also preceded in death by his first wife, Mary Ellen and their young daughter, Karen Cecilia and premature great-granddaughter McKenna. He is also preceded in death by his step-son Vincent.
Bob is survived by his brothers and sisters: Ricardo, Dominador, Teresita, Jose, Francisco, Teodoro, and Danilo.
Bob is survived by his four children: Rita, Bobby and his wife Jacqueline, Carmen and her husband Andy, and Arlene and her husband Matt. He is also survived by his second wife, Barbara and his step-children, Greg and his wife Desiree and Jamie and her husband Tony. Greg and Desiree have been the bridge that connected both families, heaven-sent angels they both are!
Bob is also survived by his grandchildren Jeremiah and his wife Tanya, Frankie and his wife Megan, Joshua and his wife Stephanie, Lawrence "Lane" and his wife Sierra, Mathieu and MariaElena.
He is also survived by his step-grandchildren Chandler and his wife Inesia, Cailee and her husband Jacob, and Chloe, Miyah, Taylor and Tyler as well as Kayleigh and Kira.
Bob is also survived by his great-grandchildren Eliora and Sophie, Ian, Alek, and Ezekiel, Airalynn and Joshua, Danzik and Ollie Mae, and his step-great-grandchildren Orianna and the future Miss Paisley! I think that covers everyone.
Bob was a very loved and respected man. He will be greatly missed by everyone who knew him, some of whom will never be the same without him.

I miss you so much, Dad! On the morning of my birthday, I expected you to call me saying, "Di me, da you?" After a minute or two, I realized that I would never get that call again. It crushed me. I am comforted in knowing you are always with me, both in spirit as well as in the two keepsake urns necklaces I wear around my neck every day.

I just came across this page in Legacy, with tremendous sadness, yes, "Pop" was one of a kind... very kindhearted soul who really loved his family circle and close friends... He was a man of God... He and his son bobby gave me a place at their home for a season back in 2006... He and his family had always made me an important piece in the family circle... He had accepted me as I am without judging me of my past... I would never forget the love, kindness, and the memories he had shared with me... we had many talks over the Scriptures and other subjects... he was well verse in all areas... I am glad he had met my youngest son, Bryce, when he came out for a visit back in 2008... He welcomed him as well into the circle... For he lived well and was loved by many...
We'll meet again, Pop, in a glorious place...
My heartfelt condolences to the rest of the family... May you all cherish the memories you all have been blessed with him, as a father, as a grandfather, great grandfather, mentor, friend, and brother... R.I.P
Rocky

Oh yes, I´m going to go there! I can see him shaking his fist at me and giving me the evil eye!
When we were traveling from Phoenix to Sumter, South Carolina, one of the tires on the station wagon we were hauling caught on fire. Dad got out because a truck driver waved him down to stop. He had a fire extinguisher and he helped put out the fire. As dad was walking back to the car, a cattle truck was approaching. Dad sped up his walk, but just as he reached for the handle, Bobby locked the doors. Dad was banging on the window, holding his neck like he was choking, and acting like he was passing out. We were all laughing inside the car! When the coast was clear, my mom unlocked the doors. As he got in the car, mom asked, "Hey honey, did you have a good time with your friends?" Dad shook his fist at us all and said, "Oh, shut up!" Then we all laughed; even Dad!

I loved talking about air planes and aerospace education with Papa. He was so proud that I asked him to help me study for the state aerospace education test. I didn´t get first place, but third place was still an honor to receive! Thank you Papa!

Daddy you were m first love, my protector, and my hero! You were the truest example of God´s unconditional love for me. I would not be who I am today had it not been for you and mom. I miss our dances, our silliness, and our cooking together. You were the greatest "Papa" to Lane, his best buddy, He mocked every move you made. Life will not be the same without you and I will miss you for the rest of my days.Thank you Daddy for being the greatest man I have ever known and I am so blessed to have been your daughter. Loving you always!

Daddy, you were my first love, you have been my hero, and my protector! I miss dancing with you and being silly while we did. I loved watching your interactions with Lane and how he would copy everything you did. You were his best buddy ever! You were a true example of Gods unconditional love. You and Mom are why I am who I am today! I love you with all that I am and will miss you for the rest of my days. Life will not be the same without you but I am forever blessed to have had you in my life and even more blessed to have been able to be your daughter.Loving you always and God bless you my sweet Daddy!
