Roberto Chavez, age 71, of Newberry South Carolina passed away at home surrounded by his family on Monday, January 19, 2026.
He was born to loving parents Maria Luisa Rodriguez Núñez and Paulino Chávez González on December 21, 1954 in Tacubaya, Mexico. In his early professional years he had became a top salesman’s and could convince you to buy almost anything. He was most known for being an excellent baker among the Latino community here in South Carolina and often catered weddings and other large gatherings. Roberto was a faithful member of the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter Day Saints and taught his children to love God. He was married to his loving wife Maria Cristiana Hernandez Aguilar for more than 30 years before she passed away in 2007.
He was great father who taught his children the value of hard work and a love for music and dancing. His grandchildren love him deeply and his friendly smile will be missed dearly.
Roberto is survived by his children Josue (Tania) Chavez Hernandez, Liliana (Ricardo) Chavez Corona; sisters, Gloria Lumus, Maria Lopez and Marta Chavez; brother, Jose Chavez and his grand children, Allison Chavez Corona, Sarah Chavez Corona, Cristina Chavez and Josue Israel Chavez.
Funeral services will be held at 11:00 am, Wednesday, January 21, 2026, at the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter Day Saints. Burial will follow in Rosemont Cemetery.
The family will receive friends in the Relief Society Room at the church on Wednesday from 10:00 – 11:00 am.
