Roberto Sanchez Obituary

Published by Legacy on Sep. 16, 2025.
Roberto Sanchez Jr.
November 26, 1939 – September 2, 2025
As the clouds cleared and the sun began to rise on September 2, 2025, Roberto Sanchez Jr. who was born in Laredo was called home to join our Heavenly Father and his family that was waiting for him in heaven. Roberto joined his mother and father, Guadalupe and Roberto along with his brothers and sister, Eduardo Jose Sanchez, Armando Sanchez and Bertha Esparza. Roberto was also reunited with his son Gilbert. He is survived by his wife Esther, son Samuel, daughter Adriana, son Eduardo, sisters Andrea Martinez, and Maria Guadalupe (Nena) Sanchez.
Roberto grew up in Laredo. He was proud to tell the story of how he and his friends named their neighborhood, El Ghost Town. As a part of a migrant family he spent time in Minnesota among other places where he along with the rest of the family picked vegetables and learned to work side by side with people of many races and ethnicities. Roberto made friends everywhere.
Robert met and found the love of his life in Laredo, Esther Paz, when he was only 20 and she was 16. Roberto and Esther spent almost 66 years dancing together and always listening to music. There were difficult years, ups and downs and battles with illness but always moving forward. They never lost the "spark". They had three sons, Samuel(Eileen) Sanchez, Gilbert Sanchez, Eddie( Nora) Sanchez and a beautiful daughter Adriana Sanchez.
Roberto went to school but his diploma came from the school of experience and hard work. He started as an irrigation hand and rose to become foreman at the farm he lived in and called home for many years in Brentwood, California. Roberto returned to Laredo to raise his family. He began his passion for construction as an apprentice and eventually became the foreman for James Rice builders. Roberto eventually started his own construction company, Reliable Homes, and built homes in the Delwood area. He was proud of his craftsmanship and the quality of the homes he built.
Roberto was an avid Houston Astros baseball fan and he rarely left his house without an Astros hat on his head. Robert spent countless hours with his children, both in action and example to the point that all were motivated to succeed. His daughter Adriana earned a athletic scholarship and played volleyball for Laredo Community College and then for Texas A&I in Kingsville. Robert was so proud that his children went on to become Principal, Bank Executive, Counselor, and Terminal Manager.
Robert was always surrounded by children. First his own and then his grandchildren: Elizabeth, Samuel Roberto, Rebecca, Katherine, Micheal, Chris , Tanya, Celina, Alex, Andres, Adriana, Aggie, Kaylean, Lisa, and Lizette. Roberto also leaves behind to continue his legacy 15 great grandchildren.
Roberto will be remembered for his grilling, ability to fix and build, his love and his faith in God. A memorial service will be held on Tuesday, September 16, 2025 from 5:00 pm to 9:00 pm at Fred Dickey Funeral & Cremation Services. A rosary will be recited at 7:00 pm. The Sanchez family will be meeting at San Martin de Porres Catholic Church on Wednesday, September 17, 2025 for a funeral mass at 9:30 am with interment immediately after mass. A gathering will be held at the family home.
