Robin Burkinshaw Obituary

Obituary published on Legacy.com by Seger Funeral Home, Inc. - Atkinson on Jun. 27, 2025.
Robin Lee Burkinshaw was born on January 11, 1957, to Gerald and Alice (Lubbers) Burkinshaw in Cedar Rapids, IA. He passed away on June 22, 2025, at the age of 68 after suffering a stroke at Avera McKennan Hospital in Sioux Falls, SD.
He is survived by siblings; Dori Marx of Oakland, NE, Karen and Tony Hoffman of Atkinson, Kim Burkinshaw of Atkinson, Richard Burkinshaw of O'Neill, Kelly and Danielle (Burkinshaw) Schmidt of Foreman, ND; half-brothers Leslie and wife Theresia, Brian Burkinshaw, and half-sister Melinda Burkinshaw all of Lincoln. Rob was the fourth child of 9 siblings.
Rob lived for a while with his father and second family in Lincoln helping his father with his lawn care business. Later in life Rob did roofing and repair in the O'Neill area. He then moved to Yankton, SD where he was self-employed as a self-taught carpenter. He shingled roofs and was the all-around handy man.
Rob attended O'Neill High School until the 11th grade. He then decided he would rather work for an irrigation company in O'Neill than graduate.
Robin never married and was fiercely independent and had to do things his way which he felt was the right way. He always had a positive "I can do it" attitude with any project or job that he was hired to do.
Robin had a soft spot in his heart for animals, especially cats. They were his family, and he loved them all, sick ones, strays, injured, or hungry they all found a place to live at Rob's house. He often would give his meal to his pets and go without himself.
Robin was preceded in death by his Parents, Gerald and Alice Burkinshaw; nephews Jessie Yelli, Marcellus Cherry, and Derrick Miller.
