Dr. Robin R. Jones

Biography: Dr. Robin R. Jones passed away on April 25, 2023. He was born to Marietta Mayhan Jones and Jay Jones October 18, 1937, in Little Rock. After graduating from Central High School in 1955 he studied pre-med at Tulane University, finishing in 1958. In 1962 he obtained his MD from the University of Arkansas for Medical Sciences. He also received a PhD degree in biochemistry from UAMS.
After residencies at Tulane and UAMS in biochemical pathology he joined the Pathology Department faculty at UAMS in 1967. He attained the academic level of professor. He served as course director for the medical pathology courses at UAMS for almost 40 years. Dr. Jones was a pioneer in developing computer learning for students.
From 1963-1972 he served as a commissioned officer in the U.S. Army Reserve.
On retiring from UAMS in 2004, Robin completed a course in personal property appraisal with the International Society of Appraisers and became a certified appraiser. An avid collector of antique Russian icons, he curated several icon exhibits. Robin enjoyed learning something new each day. He always remembered something that a friend told him many years ago, "When the day comes that I don't learn something new, I will know that I am dead."
After being raised in the Methodist Church, Robin's interest in icons led him to convert to the Orthodox Christian religion. He was chrismated at Annunciation Greek Orthodox Church January 1, 1998. He took the name "Nicholas" at the time of his chrismation.
An enthusiastic cook and world traveler, Robin authored a cookbook, A Passport to Foods of the World, Over 285 Recipes from Around the Globe.
Robin especially wanted to be remembered for his life-long love of teaching, for his love of animals, and his deep love and devotion to his family and friends.
He had a very special love for The Annunciation Greek Orthodox church and for his church family.
He was predeceased by his parents, his sister, Carolyn Jones Knight, his brother, Jay Lynn Jones, and Springer Spaniels Winston, Cloudy, and Echo. He is survived by a niece, Vickie Knight, and cousins Larry Jones, Jackie New­­­­, and Mary Hearn and his beloved Springer Spaniel, Pip.
Pallbearers are Larry Jones, Andrew Jones, Adam Skinner, Eric Hearns, Landon Hearns, and Lanny Hickey. Honorary Pallbearers are John Hearns and Mike New.
A short visitation will be held at Ruebel Funeral Home on Monday, May 1, 2023, at 6 p.m. followed by a prayer service at 6:30 p.m. The funeral will be Tuesday, May 2, 2023, at 2 p.m. at Annunciation Greek Orthodox Church followed by burial at Roselawn Memorial Park.
Robin would love for memorials to go to the Annunciation Greek Orthodox Church in Little Rock, or to the Pulaski County Humane Society. Arrangements are under the direction of RuebelFuneralHome.com
