Obituary of Rocco A. Dimeo
Rocco A. Dimeo, 94, of the Highlands passed away unexpectedly at home on Monday, April 28, 2025. Rocco was born on his family's farm in the Wickatunk section of Marlboro, where he grew up helping operate their truck farm. Together, the family sold and shipped their fresh produce to markets in Newark.
He later attended Franklin & Marshall College in Lancaster, Pennsylvania, earning his bachelor's degree. In 1953, Rocco answered the call to serve his country, enlisting in the United States Navy during the Korean War serving on the destroyer ship the USS Zellars. He served until 1956 and completed his reserve obligation in 1961 as a Lieutenant JG.
Following his military service, Rocco began his career with AT&T in Holmdel working as a computer programmer analyst, later transferring to the Chicago area. He eventually retired from Lucent Technologies in the late 1990s and returned to New Jersey. He settled in the Highlands, residing in the Penthouse of the Eastpointe Condominiums, where he also served on the board.
Rocco had a passion for the game of golf. Along with his wife, Cathy, they relished their time traveling. Together, they traveled across and around the United States and Europe and visited Galapagos Islands. They even took a flight on the Concorde just to say they had.
His travels often reflected his enthusiasm for birdwatching, inspired by Audubon. He delighted in observing bird behavior, identifying field marks, and listening for calls wherever they went.
In recent years, Rocco especially treasured time spent with friends at his regular Friday morning breakfast club.
He will be remembered as a devoted husband, a caring brother, and a loving uncle.
Rocco was predeceased by wife Cathy; siblings, Carmella Devino, Rose Manzo, Ralph Dimeo, Josephine Dimeo, and Gerard Dimeo. He is survived by his nephews and niece, Thomas N. Devino and his wife, Donna, Clare Passarella and her husband, Roger, and Martin Devino and his wife, Carol.
All arrangements are private by Clayton & McGirr Funeral Home, 100 Elton-Adelphia Road (Route 524), Freehold Township. For information or condolence messages to the family, visit www.claytonfuneralhome.com.
