Rocco J. Rich
With love and sadness, we announce the passing of Rocco J. Rich, age 72. Rocco, known affectionately as “Pope,” passed away peacefully on February 14, 2025, surrounded by his loved ones.
Rocco, a Canton, OH-native, was a devoted husband of 51 years to Debra Rich and a loving father to Dina (Darin) Edwards, Joey (Chrissy) Rich, Taryn (Troy) Harrington, and Randi. He was also a proud grandfather to Audrey, Hollie, Stella, Roma, Brady, Reese, and Ava-his grandkids were his pride and joy.
After beginning his career as a Canton McKinley Bulldog, Rocco became a Rose Bowl champion and a proud Ohio State Buckeye, playing for the legendary Woody Hayes. His love for the game, however, was no match for his passion for cooking spending time with loved ones. Whether he was sitting at the head of the table sharing a meal or sitting at the beach or around a campfire, being surrounded by family was his greatest joy and a genuine source of peace happiness.
His distinctive, infectious laugh and easy lightheartedness made him a true joy to be around.
Rocco is also survived by sisters Joyce Muoio, Patricia Fehn, Janet (Tom) Valentine and brothers Joe Rich & George (Pierina) Rich.
Rocco’s legacy lives on in the devoted, unconditional love he gave. He will be dearly missed and forever remembered.
Visitation will be held on Thursday, February 20, 2025 from 5-8 p.m. at Newcomer Funeral Home, 131 N. Canton Rd., Akron, Ohio. Funeral Mass will be held on Friday, February 21, 2025 at 10 a.m. at Holy Family Church, 3179 Kent Rd., Stow, Ohio, Father Felix Silagan officiating.
