Rochelle Renee Mitchell passed away on Monday, January 27, 2025, surrounded by her children at NorthCare Hospice House in North Kansas City, Missouri. She was born on December 19, 1962, in Kansas City, Missouri, to Solomon (Jr.) and Ora Lee (Bates) Mitchell.
Rochelle was the youngest of six children, and grew up in Kansas City, Missouri, with one brother, Ronald Lee Mitchell, four sisters, Mayola Wilson, Doris Strickland, Sherry Mitchell and Seletia Mitchell, and a host of nieces, nephews, cousins and friends. She graduated from Southeast High School in Kansas City, Missouri.
On May 17, 1999, she earned her EMT-Paramedic Program Certificate from Penn Valley Community College. Rochelle had a deep love for caring for both babies and the elderly, dedicating her life to looking after her five children, grandchildren, and her great-aunt, Mariah Love.
Known for her impeccable fashion & style, Rochelle was a true artist at heart. She passed down to her children her deep appreciation for music, introducing them to the timeless sounds of Earth, Wind & Fire, OutKast, Erykah Badu, Prince, and Michael Jackson. Her love for vintage and classic fashion was reflected in the carefully curated wardrobe pieces and prototypes she collected, along with her cherished vinyl records and diverse works of art. Rochelle's creativity and passion for timeless artistry continue to live on through her children, shaping their appreciation for Black culture, music, and style.
Rochelle was a natural-born leader with a powerful drive to be her own boss. She always stood for what was right, even if she had to stand alone. She was an inspiring, influential, resilient, innovative, empathetic, confident, and authentic woman who could do it all. When it came to her vision and passion, she always found a way to make the impossible possible. Rochelle's beautiful spirit and soul will continue to live on, inspiring the many lives she touched.
She was preceded in death by her older brother, Ronald Lee Mitchell; her grandmother, Gertrude Bates; her parents, Solomon and Ora Lee Mitchell; her aunt, Mildred Goodrich; and her beloved great-aunt Mariah Love.
Rochelle is survived by her sisters, and her five children: Rodney Antoine Woods Sr., Brizha Enjoli (Handley) Phaeton, Yrnéh Rochelle Abrought, Remy Martell Abrought, and Ronald Lee Mitchell II, all of Kansas City, Missouri. She also leaves behind her six cherished grandchildren: Rodney Antoine Woods Jr., Ronelle James Johnson, Khary Phaeton Jr., Kapri Ivy Phaeton, R'Moni Antoinette Woods and Charlie Monae Douglass.
A private memorial service will be held by her children, and grandchildren. Condolences and flowers can be sent to Lawrence A. Jones & Sons Funeral Home in Kansas City, Missouri.

I was Bitty and she was Roach. We grew up together on Chestnut and our families were close. We were best friends as kids and I was so excited when she came to Southeast High School. After graduation in 1981, our paths didn't cross often, but when they did it was like we had never missed a beat! I loved how she'd flash that beautiful smile, cock her head to the side and say, "Hi Bitty." Then we'd catch up on how our families were doing. I was fortunate to meet her adult daughters who are just as sweet.

She will be dearly missed. Sending my sincere condolences to the family. RIH Roach.
