Edward Byron Baker, Jr (aka Byron) was born April 28, 1953, to the union of Edward Byron Baker Sr. and Florene L. Baker in Kansas City, Missouri. Byron accepted Christ at an early age and was baptized into the Catholic faith. He attended catholic school throughout his elementary and high school years graduating with the last class of De La Salle High School in 1971. After graduation, he attended the University of Missouri Kansas City where he pledged Alpha Phi Alpha Delta Rho Chapter and was initiated into the fraternity where he later became chapter president. During his college years, Byron trained in martial arts and studied a form of martial arts called "Sho Lum Te" where he earned his brown belt. Because of his love, dedication and discipline in the martial arts, his frat brothers affectionally nicknamed him Hoshimoto or "Hosh" for short. Byron went on to earn his Bachelor of Arts in Industrial Relations at Rockhurst University. Shortly thereafter, he began his professional career with the Kansas City School District later on working for the Head Start Program, Exxon Mobile and, also worked with trouble youth through the Juvenile Court System. During this time, he went on to earn his Masters of Science degree in Adult Education at Kansas State University. Byron loved to read and was also an excellent artist, sculptor and calligrapher and an avid comic book collector. One of his favorite pastimes was going to comic book themed and horror movies. Byron loved his family especially his nieces and nephews and was proud and excited with their accomplishments. Byron was a son, brother, uncle, cousin, and dear friend to all. When Byron's health began to fail, he relocated to Villa St Francis in Olathe, Kansas where he attended Mass weekly and was loved and cared for by the staff until his death. Byron departed this life on August 29, 2025. He is preceded in death by his father, Edward Byron Baker, Sr.; and his mother Florene L Baker Knight. He leaves to cherish his loving memory, three siblings, Diane Smith (Robert); Michael Baker (Frances); and Florence Houcks; and a host of nieces, nephews, cousins, and friends. Sad to hear that Byron has passed. I remember him as a nice, intelligent kid at De La Salle. I am impressed, but not surprised at all the good things he went on to do in his life. May he rest in peace.
