The angel of silence came on Thursday, August 21, 2025, and called home one of His beloved saints, Charlene McClellan Porter. Charlene was born on August 31, 1929, in Jackson, Tennessee, to the union of Algie McClellan and Mary Yarbrough McClellan. She was preceded in death by her parents; three sisters, Marinette, Lula Mae, and Lurlene; three brothers, Allen, James Willie, and Garland; and her two husbands, Tuson B. Williams and Edward A. Porter. Her early education took place in Kansas City, Missouri, where she attended Charles Sumner Elementary School, R. T. Coles Middle School, and graduated from Lincoln High School in 1947. She later attended Lincoln University in Jefferson City, Missouri. Charlene accepted the Lord Jesus Christ as her Savior at an early age and was baptized under the pastorate of Reverend D. A. Holmes at Paseo Baptist Church. Throughout her life, she continued serving faithfully under the leadership of Pastor Charles I. Briscoe, Pastor Delmar A. White, Pastor Gregory F. Ealey, and Pastor LaRon Thompson. She served as an administrative secretary for the Kansas City, Missouri School District for twenty-two years, retiring in 1993. A devoted student of God's Word, Charlene studied for several years at Carver Baptist Bible College. Her church was her joy-she was an active member and secretary of Adult Sunday School Class #3, treasurer of the Hannah Mission Circle, and a proud member of the Swope Parkway Health Center S.P.R.O.U.T.S. Auxiliary. Charlene loved traveling, bowling, and playing bridge, passions she enjoyed until her health began to decline. She leaves to cherish her memory: two nieces, Elaine (Al) Lomax of Kansas City, Missouri, and Armetha McClellan of Atlanta, Georgia; one nephew, Rodney (Kim) Carter of Las Vegas, Nevada; a great-nephew, LaRon (Latrice) McClellan of Las Vegas, Nevada; and a special great-nephew, Ramon (Kristen) Moses of Douglasville, Georgia; along with a host of loving cousins and friends. Charlene will be remembered for her warm smile, giving spirit, and loving heart. She will be deeply missed by all who knew her. Funeral Services will be held on Friday September 5, 2025, at 11:00 a.m. at Paseo Baptist Church 2501 Paseo Blvd. KCMO 64108. Interment: Forest Hill Cemetery. Visitation: 10 – 11:00 a.m. at the Church. Arrangements entrusted to Lawrence A. Jones & Sons Funeral Chapels. Condolences may be shared on our website lawrenceajones.com
