Rod was born June 9, 1947, in Hannibal, MO to Harold Sturtevant and Marjorie Akright Sturtevant.
He was a 1965 graduate of West Pike High School where he played baseball and basketball. He graduated from Western Illinois University in Macomb, IL, where he met the love of his life. He married Pamela "Pam" Harmon on July 11, 1970, in Dixon IL. She survives.
Other survivors include his two daughters, Kara Villeneuve (Jef) of St. Paul, MO and Kelli Pryor (James) of Troy, MO; two brothers, Rick Sturtevant (Patti) of Bartonville, IL, Khoy Sturtevant (Julie) of Poplar Bluff, MO; brother-in-law Pat Harmon (Paula), sister-in-law Cheri Marshall (Jim); four grandchildren, Austin Warner (Lex), Alexander Leftridge, Madeline Villeneuve, and Evelyn Pryor; and several nieces and nephews.
Rod was preceded in death by his parents; one sister, Jackie Parrish; and two brothers, Clarence "Demps" Sturtevant, Warren "Butch" Sturtevant, brother-in-law Darrell Parrish, and sister-in-law Shirley Sturtevant.
Professionally Rod was a salesman with the John Deere dealerships in Hull and Quincy IL for 37 years, retiring in December 2016.
Rod's early years were marked by a love for the outdoors, where he enjoyed hunting, fishing, and boating on the Mississippi River and Mark Twain Lake. His love for travel took Rod and Pam to several different countries, from the Caribbean to Europe, and he especially loved Rome. His most recent trip took him to Montana and Yellowstone National Park with his entire family. Away from the excitement of travel, Rod enjoyed spending time with his family, was a regular at his grandchildren's sporting events, and loved completing projects around the house.
He was a longtime member of the Hull Lions Club, the Hannibal Elks Lodge, and Goodfellows where he enjoyed cooking for special events, including the annual Hull Picnic and Pancake and Sausage Day.
Rod also loved to play cards. He and Pam, along with lifelong friends, are part of a special monthly "pinochle club" that has lasted for over 50 years. The friendships were something that he greatly cherished.
Rod was a Christian by faith.
