Rodney Derrick Brooks, 66 of Newington, CT was born on November 7, 1959 in Lincoln, Alabama to Amanda Brooks and Leroy Brooks, Sr., who raised him with love, strength, and unwavering support. From a young age, he displayed a vibrant spirit, and a natural ability to bring laughter to those around him. Rodney went home to be with them on November 14, 2025.
Rodney was a long-time resident of both Connecticut and Alabama. He attended Hartford Public High School where he played as an All-Star basketball player all four years of high school. Upon completion of school, Rodney ventured out in life and pursued various vocational positions in Security and Transportation to support his family. He worked in the Logistics and Transportation for close to thirty years. We will always remember his laughter and antics. Rodney enjoyed being around his children, friends and family, eating and attending church services whenever available. His dedication to his family and hard work has left a lasting impact.
Rodney is survived by two daughters, Latoya Brooks and Desiray Brooks, his four grandchildren, Amya Johnson, Zyaire Chaney, Walter Chaney and Cody Russell, sisters, Angela Cushon and April Brooks, brother, Leroy Brooks, Jr., nieces Anetra Brooks, Yiesha Brooks, Megan Sousa, Marie Brooks, Ashley Cushon, Endya and Emani Stewart, nephews, Kejuan Brooks, Daquan Brooks, Gabriel Brooks and Jordan Cushon, former partner, Jodi Booth, step-daughters, Ebony and Ivory Booth and Crystal Brown, special friends Renee and Carl. And a host of 'Great' nieces, nephews, aunts, uncles and cousins other extended family whom he loved dearly but there are too many to mention. Rodney was preceded in death by both loving his parents, Amanda Brooks and Leroy Brooks, Sr., his beloved sisters, Garvis and Pearl Brooks Carr, his brother, Lafayette Elston and nephew, Lonnie Brooks.
Rodney was in a serious car accident with his mother that left him impaired. After the passing of his Mother, he returned to Connecticut to be closer to his loved ones. While in his Nursing Home Residency, Rodney passed on. He will be truly missed on this earth but has gained his Wings in Heaven with the Lord.
Funeral Services will be held on Friday, November 21, 2025 at the Greater Grace Apostolic Church at 23 Church St, Terryville, CT 06786.
