Rodney Lynn McDonald, 64, of Granbury, Texas (formerly of Gadsden, Alabama), passed away on August 9, 2025, after a brief battle with cancer.

Rodney was born in Gadsden, Alabama, on March 7, 1961, to Thomas C. and Mary L. McDonald at Holy Name of Jesus Hospital. He was a 1979 graduate of Emma Sansom High School, where he was a proud member of the football and basketball teams. Rodney was a loving spouse, father, grandfather, brother, uncle, and friend to many.

He was preceded in death by his parents, Thomas and Mary McDonald, and his grandparents, Mr. and Mrs. E.C. McDonald and Mr. and Mrs. J.J. Coffey.

Rodney is survived by his partner, Sandra Seals Payne; his ex-wife, Becky Gilbert Roden (Chris); his sons, Justin McDonald (Courtney) of Trussville, Alabama, and Christopher McDonald of Gadsden, Alabama; and his stepchildren, Kenney Payne (Mary) of Bedford, Texas, and Jordan Patry (Paul) of Zamami, Japan. He was a proud grandfather to Mason and Connor McDonald of Trussville, Alabama, and Huxley and Rheia Patry of Zamami, Japan. He is also survived by his brothers, Thomas McDonald (Debbie), Jeffrey McDonald of Gadsden, Alabama, and Steve McDonald (Sue) of Oxford, Alabama; as well as several nephews, a niece, great-nieces and a great-nephew.

A memorial service will be held at Smiths Chapel Missionary Baptist Church in Gadsden, Alabama, on Saturday, August 30, 2025, at 1:00 p.m.
