John Bertrand "Bert" Pennington, 87, passed away peacefully on August 15, 2025, in Granbury, Texas. A devoted husband, father, grandfather, and proud veteran, Bert lived a life marked by service, perseverance, and deep love for his family.

Born on November 17, 1937, in Greenville, Texas, Bert was the son of Philip Bertrand Pennington and Dorothy King. He was later raised by his stepmother Bernice Pennington. From an early age, Bert demonstrated a strong sense of duty and resilience-qualities that would define his life's journey.

Bert honored his country with distinction as a Navy Seabee for 11 years. During his time in the service, he earned his GED-a testament to his determination and commitment to personal growth even while serving abroad. After completing his military service, he continued to pursue education and earned his associate's degree from Eastfield College in Mesquite, Texas.

Following his academic achievements, Bert embarked on a career with the Federal Bureau of Prisons. Over the course of two decades, he served with integrity and dedication before retiring after 20 years of federal service. His work left a lasting impact on those around him and reflected the same steadfast values he carried throughout his life.

Bert was married to Carolyn Pennington until her passing. Together they built a loving family and shared many cherished memories.

Later in life, he found love again with Paula Pennington, who survives him today. Bert and Paula created a new life consisting of love, laughter, family and friends.

He is also survived by his children: John Philip Pennington (Seanna), Patrick Kevin Pennington (Wendee), Jason Lane Pennington (Rebecca), and Kelly Madole (Kelly) as well as his siblings Philip (Flip) Pennington, sister Penny Hunt and Sue Cobb. His legacy continues through numerous grandchildren and great-grandchildren who brought immense joy to his life.

Bert was preceded in death by his first wife Carolyn; daughter Kim Guzy; son-in-law Buddy Guzy; granddaughter Erin Guzy; father Philip Bertrand Pennington; birth mother Doorthy King; and stepmother Bernice Pennington.

Outside of work and family life, Bert found great joy in simple pleasures. He was an avid golfer whose passion for the game never waned. He also enjoyed reading and cheering on the Dallas Cowboys-pastimes that brought him both relaxation and excitement over the years.

May his memory bring comfort to those who knew him and serve as a reminder of a life well-lived through service, love, and quiet strength.
