Rodney G Spell passed away on Sunday, November 23, 2025. He was born in Fort Worth, Texas and was received into the home of Gladys and Lawrence Spell October 27, 1954. He grew up in Spring Branch as a much loved only child. Rodney graduated from Spring Woods High School in 1973 and went on to enter the plumbing program through Plumbers Local Union 68. He graduated as a journeyman in 1979 and went on to obtain his master license in 1983. He loved plumbing and made a successful career out of it until 2000 when he left field work and went into the inspection and plan approval side of plumbing. He retired on October 31, 2023.
Rodney was a big personality who loved music. He lived a colorful life and always had a story. He loved to talk to people and never went anywhere that he didn't find a new friend to talk to. Rodney had three children, Cassidy Spell, Graham Spell, and Bethany Spell whom he loved dearly. He went on to marry the love of his life Robyn in the year 2001 and became Dad to 4 more children, Joel Robinson, Zachary Robinson, Keslie Robinson (Dodd), and Colton Robinson. He raised and loved these children as his own and instilled many words of wisdom as well as catch phrases in all of the 7 of the kids.
He lived for family gatherings as the family grew and moved out. He loved to cook for them all and always made sure there was more than enough food. All he ever desired was for the family to come home and everyone be together. Every thought he had was toward making his home one that the kids and grands would want to come to. He adored his grandsons Caleb, Lane, Joe, Joseph, Jaxon and loved time spent with them fishing, hunting, or watching them in their athletic or school events. He was already looking forward to seeing Joseph's Christmas choir concert. His second wave of grandchildren were all girls Sadie, Rubie, Joelene, and Penelope and to say they had him wrapped around their finger is an understatement. Rodney was known for renaming everything and everyone so the grands in order were Buddy, Flaco, Sue, Action, Cowgirl, Rooster, Joelene (the only name he never messed with out of respect to her namesake), and Dime. He was looking forward in eager anticipation of the holiday season and his wife's crazy Christmas antics, sharing lights and activities with his grandkids and just generally loving on his family.
Rodney also had a big heart for animals and would have brought every creature into his home if he was allowed. He also was a huge fan of the Astros and was religious about watching the games, win or lose. He especially loved to watch rodeos.
Rodney was baptized in 1970 alongside his mother. Rodney loved the Lord and as an adult became especially interested in diving deep into Gods word and truly understanding it, not just reading it. He believed he was a sinner saved by grace and although he recognized he failed often he always came back to true repentance. Prayer was a constant part of his life alongside his wife and together they walked a walk of faith each and every day. Rodney wanted nothing more than to see all his children, their spouses, and grandchildren come to know and have faith in his Lord and Savior Jesus Christ. Rodney had many bible verses that he loved and clung to but above them all he believed the most important to know was John 3:16 "For God so loved the world that he gave his only begotten son that whosoever believes in him should not perish but have eternal life" He was a true believer in the gospel of Jesus Christ.
Rodney is preceded in death by his mother and father, Lawrence and Gladys Spell, and his son Joel Robinson. He leaves behind his wife Robyn Spell; his children Cassidy Spell; Graham Spell and his children Joseph and Jaxon Spell; Bethany Spell and her children Caleb Knight and Joe Bazan; Zachary Robinson, his wife Justine and their daughter Joelene; Keslie Dodd, her husband Jacob and their daughters Sadie and Rubie; Colton Robinson, his wife Payton and their daughter Penelope; and grandson Lane Robinson. He is also survived by countless "adopted" children and grandchildren whom he loved dearly as well as many friends and family members.
Rodney was loved deeply by those that knew him and we were not prepared to let him go. God in his infinite wisdom knew Rodney had suffered on this earth long enough though and called him home. We rejoice in the fact that he is no longer in pain of any kind either physical or emotional but he leaves a huge hole in the heart of those who loved him. May you continue to reach out and pray for them as they face this difficult season without him and always remember who you are.
