It is with heavy hearts and beautiful memories that we announce the passing of Danny Lee Draughon who passed away into the arms of our Lord on September 11, 2025 at the age of 77. Born in sunny Wimauma (Tampa area), Florida, Danny became a Texan when his family moved to Houston when he was a young boy. He attended Spring Branch schools and graduated from Spring Woods High School. Danny was an easygoing soul from the start - a spirited and athletic young boy who grew into a man known for his keen intuition, dry humor, and down-to-earth nature. Danny loved and excelled in sports, whether it was football, tennis, bowling, fishing or golf. Life's simple joys always brought him the most happiness, and he carried that easy-to-please outlook with him as a devoted husband, stepdad, grandfather, brother and friend. Proud to have served his country in the Vietnam war, Danny was a Navy veteran who found peace and fulfillment near the water. Whether fishing by the shore, boating on Lake Conroe, camping in state parks, out on the golf course with a cold Miller Lite, or enjoying a game of online poker, Danny made every moment count. He earned his BA in Business and his MBA from Our Lady of the Lake University in San Antonio and was a member of Delta Mu Delta, the National Honor Society of Business Administration. He was a devoted employee throughout his professional life, whether working in senior management for Southwestern Bell (later AT&T), in finance for MD Anderson Cancer Center or after their marriage in 1999, handling the accounting and behind-the-scenes business management for his wife's interior design and home renovation company, Susan Fruit Interiors. Danny leaves behind a family who cherished him deeply. He will be remembered for his generosity, his calm, steady presence, his ability to make those around him feel seen, heard, cared for and at ease, for his humility and for his quiet, thoughtful service to others. Danny is survived by his wife of nearly twenty-six years, Susan Fruit Draughon, and his stepdaughters Amy Fruit Conley, her husband Jeff, grandsons Dylan and Bryce; Laura Fruit Guillory, her husband Brandon, granddaughters Molly and Sophie; his sister Patricia Gama, her husband Guillermo, his son Randy Draughon and many other extended family members. He is preceded in death by his parents, Daniel L and Maebelle Burnett Draughon, beloved stepmother Bobbyee Draughon, sister Joann Santiago and brother Michael Draughon. A Celebration of Life Service will be held on Friday, October 24 at 11:00 a.m. at Memorial Drive United Methodist Church in Friendship Court, 12955 Memorial Drive, Houston, Texas with reception to follow.
