Roger Edward Anderson, formerly of Braham and Mora, passed away peacefully on Tuesday, December 9, 2025, at GracePointe Crossing in Cambridge. He was 89 years old.
Roger was born on April 18, 1936, in
Tamarack, Minnesota to parents Edward and Ailie (Latvala) Anderson. He grew up in Cloquet where he attended Garfield grade school before moving to Kettle River in the 6th grade. In 8th grade he began school in Moose Lake, graduating in 1954. Roger was drafted into the United States Army in October of 1954 and served active duty overseas until October of 1958.
On August 20, 1960, Roger was united in marriage to Elva Johnson at the Hope Lutheran Church in Moose Lake. They made their home in Braham and were blessed with three children. Roger worked in the twin ports area until 1964 when he began his 33-year career by working as a lineman at East Central Electric. Over the years he rose to be the Cambridge Area Supervisor and finally a staking engineer before retiring in July of 1997. He and Elva moved to Mora where they enjoyed many years living by the river. Roger loved to garden and keep meticulous care of his lawn and home.
Roger was an active member of the St. Stephen's Lutheran Church in Braham since 1964, serving in numerous roles including the church council, being an elder, and singing in the choir. Roger loved the outdoors hunting and fishing. He had a passion for sports, especially baseball, golf, and bowling. He was an avid Twins and Viking fan, win or lose. Most of all, Roger loved his family and spending time with his kids, grandkids, and great grandkids. He will be dearly missed.
Roger was preceded in death by his parents.
Roger is survived by his wife Elva; children, Cheryl (Tim) Sorensen, Debbie (Jim) Knickerbocker, and Phil (Ginger) Luoma Anderson; grandchildren, Bethany (Pat) Sellers, Jordan (Anthony) Pierce, Caleb (Heather) Sorensen, Luke (Brooke) Sorensen, Hope (Zerek) Marsyla, Grace (John) Novotny, Rhea (Ben) Bloomquist, Hannah (Dan) Gelhar, Aliina (Tanner) Olson, and Kaisa Luoma Anderson (Ryan Bottema); 26 great grandchildren, and 1 great great grandchild; brothers, Rodney (Vicky) Anderson, James (Debbie) Anderson, and Mark (Heidi) Anderson; sisters-in-law, Patty LaFontaine and Judy Johnson; many nieces, nephews, other relatives and friends.
A Funeral Service will be held at 11:00 am on Monday, December 15, 2025 at the St. Stephen's Lutheran Church in Braham with Pastor Grant Bode officiating.
Visitation will be held 1 hour prior to the service at the church.
Military Honors will be provided by the Braham VFW Post 1738.
A luncheon will follow the church service.
A private Interment will be in the Sunset Cemetery in Moose Lake, Minnesota.
Memorial are preferred to the St. Stephen's Lutheran church in Braham.
