It is with deep sorrow that the family announces the passing of Roger M. Bain, who died May 6, 2025, after battling acute myeloid leukemia. He was 81.
Born in Troy, NY, Roger was a gifted athlete and played baseball and football as a boy with his brother and best friend, Tom.
As a young man, Roger moved to Chicago, where he met the love of his life, Mirna. Soon, they left for Houston looking for better opportunities with two young kids, Felix and Mimi, in tow. They added daughters Nilsa and Gabrielle to the family over the next few years. He found a career he loved with the US Postal Service, where he worked for decades and was affectionately known as "The Kid" because of his youthful appearance. It was a distinguishing trait he maintained all his life.
He was known for his love of baseball (go Astros and Yankees!) and Latin music, especially Pitbull. He enjoyed sharing his love of Houston and taking visitors to area attractions such as NASA, the San Jacinto Monument, and the Battleship of Texas. "Don't fall asleep in the car with dad," his daughters would jokingly warn one another, "or you'll wake up at one of those places."
He collected an astonishing amount of art, historical artifacts, and memorabilia over the years – especially Native American pieces. Roger also enjoyed traveling to exotic destinations via the History and Travel channels, whether to the pyramids of Egypt and other places aliens might have made contact or to historic sites around the world.
His true passion, though, was his children, whom he taught to love baseball and to cheer loudly for your team. They were his favorite companions; for them, Roger set the standard for what it means to truly love and care for someone.
He lived what he described as a beautiful life, with no regrets – except for the time he went to the movies and saw "Holy Moses."
He is survived by daughters Mimi Morrissey (Jeff), Nilsa Holmes (Frank), and Gabrielle Bain (John); ex-wife Mirna Fernandez; brother Tom Bain; nephew Tommy Bain; niece Marcy Poulin; nephew Ricky Bain; and four grandchildren.
No memorial service is planned at this time.
