It is with heavy hearts that we announce the passing of Roger G. Burleson, a beloved husband, father, grandfather, great-grandfather, brother, and friend. Roger passed away peacefully on Sunday, November 30th, 2025, at the age of 82, in his home in Arlington, Georgia.
Roger was born on Saturday, June 19th, 1943, in Albemarle, North Carolina, to the late Hoyle Liston Burleson and Hazel Burleson. He was preceded in death by his parents and three sisters, Myrna, Sandra, and Patricia.
Roger proudly served his country in the United States Navy as a Jet Pilot, a testament to his dedication and love for his nation. After his military service, he embarked on a career as a crop duster pilot, then enjoying being a part of the Arlington Community as he ran the Pioneer Minute Mart, his later years he enjoyed and finally retired as a commercial truck driver, all professions he held with pride and commitment.
A man of faith, Roger was an active member of Temple Baptist Church, where he was the music leader, finding solace and strength in his spiritual journey. His involvement in the church was a cornerstone of his life, and he cherished the fellowship and friendships he formed there, as well as friendships through his many years of playing and singing music.
Roger is survived by his devoted wife of 60 years, Minnie Lea Burleson, who stood by his side through life's many adventures. He leaves behind a loving family, including his children, Rhonda Burleson Whiddon (Ronald) of Leary, GA, and Chris Scott Burleson (Ling) of Cherokee Village, Arkansas. He was a proud grandfather to Levi Sheffield (Haylla), Haley Richmond (Bradley), Hunter Whiddon (Madie), Emily Kietzmann (John), Noah Burleson, and Daniel Burleson, and a doting great-grandfather to Cassidee, Henley, Abigail, Roland, Aiden, River, and Lyla. Roger is also survived by his sister, Iris Hill of Greenville, SC.
A visitation will be held at Temple Baptist Church on Friday, December 5th, 2025, from 1:00 pm to 2:00 pm, followed by a funeral service at 2:00 pm. Interment will take place at Oak Grove Cemetery in Arlington, GA. Pallbearers honoring Roger's memory will be Noah Burleson, Levi Sheffield, John Kietzmann, Bradley Richmond, Aiden Long, and Hunter Whiddon.
Arrangements are being handled by Manry-Jordan-Hodges Funeral Home. Roger's family extends their heartfelt gratitude to all who have offered their support and condolences during this difficult time.
Roger G. Burleson will be remembered for his unwavering love for his family, his dedication to his work, his steadfast faith, and his love for music. His legacy will live on in the hearts of those who knew and loved him. May he rest in eternal peace.
