Roger Dale Coffman, 69, of Morganfield, Ky., died in his sleep Thursday, July 10, at the home he shared with his dear friend Teresa Jenkins (TJ) in Dixon, Ky.
An American Army soldier who was dishonorably discharged in the Vietnam War era due to marijuana possession, he was a husband and father who labored as a carpenter, served non-violent drug time as a federal prisoner and was a genius of the streets.
He loved Jesus, Kentucky basketball, Sunkist soda, building motorcycles, smoking Kool cigarettes and telling dirty jokes.
He was met in Heaven by a host of relatives, including some he probably was not looking forward to seeing. Those who passed before him included his wife, Teresa Ann Holt; his father, James Coffman; mother, Lorene (last updated as) Shreve; her last husband, Bill; Roger's sister, Vicki Sheffer; brother, Ronnie Coffman; both sets of grandparents; and most aunts and uncles.
Survivors include his brother Lonnie. In addition to TJ and their pup, Ida Mae, he is deeply mourned by his son, Joshua Ellis Coffman; sister, Betty Jo Gatten; and all of his nieces and nephews but one.
Visitation is 11 a.m. Wednesday July 16, 2025 at Whitsell Funeral Home in Morganfield with the funeral at 1 p.m.
A graveside service will precede burial in Mt. Washington Cemetery in Mt. Washington, Ky., at 2 p.m. Thursday.
Instead of flowers, donations can be made to Whitsell Funeral Home to assist with final expenses or to a charity of your choice that benefits children, particularly one involving motorcycles. Anything in Union County is fine, as long as you're sure it is not corrupt. The WHAS Crusade for Children in Louisville is an especially good one, but so is the Ronald McDonald House, even if you don't like their fries. St. Jude's is equally awesome. Just do something meaningful for our most vulnerable.
Thank you.
