Roger Layton Cooper, 78, of Mooresville, passed at Franciscan Hospital in Indianapolis on Saturday, January 10, 2026. He was born in Mooresville on June 6, 1947 to the late William Albert Cooper and Mary Ermine (Mavity) Cooper.

He graduated from Plainfield High School with the class of 1965. On April 18, 1964, he married the love of his life, Judith "Judi" Lane. They have enjoyed over 61 years of marriage. Roger worked for Rolls Royce as an engineer retiring in 2007.

He enjoyed antiquing, collecting guns, shooting, and belonged to several Black Powder clubs. He was incredibly skilled in many trades, a master tinkerer, and even built his log home.

Roger will be missed and fondly remembered by many including his wife Judi Cooper of Mooresville; sons, Rodger (wife, Jill) Cooper of Mooresville and Shawn (wife, Kris) Cooper of Indianapolis; daughter, Tracy (husband, Garry) Kincaid of Martinsville; sister, Sherrie Remster; grandchildren, Breanna (husband, Lucas) Pickelheimer, Lane (wife, Kaylee) Cooper, and Tristin (wife, Micky) Cooper; and great grandchildren, Kayne Cooper, Quincy Cooper, and Lola Cooper.

He was preceded in death by his parents, William and Mary Cooper; and brother, William Cooper.

In keeping with his wishes, his earthly remains will be cremated. The family will host a celebration of life later in the spring. Cremation has been entrusted to Carlisle – Branson Funeral Service & Crematory in Mooresville.
