It is with deep sorrow that we announce the passing of Jerry D. Mitchell on January 19th, 2026. Born in Indianapolis, on July 4th, 1950, to his parents, Howard and Wilma (Conkle) Mitchell. Jerry married Patricia L. "Luann" (Hayes) Mitchell on November 4th, 1989. Jerry was a proud graduate of Plainfield High School, class of 1969, and dedicated over 33 years of his life as a Job Setter at Allison Transmission. Known for his unwavering commitment to his work, Jerry was a steadfast provider for his family, admired for his strong work ethic and tenacity.
Beyond his professional life, Jerry was a man of passion and adventure. He found joy in riding motorcycles and had an enduring love for watching racing, where he often shared stories of thrilling rides and memorable races. His spirit of enthusiasm and determination was an example for all who knew him.
Jerry is survived by his beloved wife, Patricia "Luann" Mitchell, of Plainfield; his three devoted children, Stacy White (Jared) of Avon, Chad Mitchell of Indianapolis, and Destiny Mitchell of Plainfield; and a loving step-daughter, Natalie Musters of Plainfield. He was a cherished grandfather to grandchildren: Drew White, Ty White, Naomi Thirkill, and Hayes Thirkill and great-grandchildren: Keegan Benner and Kylo Mitchell-Aleman, whose lives he enriched with warmth and unending support. Jerry also leaves behind his brother, Kirk Mitchell; sisters, Darlene Miller (John) and Tonya Oliphant (Bob); and his ex-spouse and good friend, Diana Hundley.
He is preceded in death by both of his parents and his beloved granddaughter, Hayleigh Mitchell, whose memory will forever hold a special place in the hearts of his family.
Jerry's life will be commemorated in a memorial service that will take place at a future date to be announced. Those who wish to pay their respects are invited to join his family in remembering a man whose gentle heart and hardworking spirit will be missed each day. Cremation arrangements have been entrusted to Jones Family Funeral and Cremation Service in Mooresville.
As we celebrate Jerry's life, we remember his laughter, his kindness, and his dedication to family-qualities that defined him and will live on in all who had the privilege of knowing him. Rest in peace, Jerry; you will be dearly missed.
