Roger F. DeChant

Roger F. DeChant, 79, of Kendall, died unexpectedly on Tuesday, September 2, 2025, at his home.

He was born to Frank and Gertrude (Witt) DeChant on January 30, 1946, at St. Mary's Hospital in Sparta, Wisconsin. Roger was baptized on March 3, 1946, and confirmed on August 2, 1959, at St. Matthew's Ev. Lutheran Church. He grew up attending Water Country School and was a member of The Royall High School graduating class of 1964.

From an early age, Roger had a deep love for farming. As a boy, he could often be found playing under the trees with his John Deere toy tractors or paging through John Deere magazines. That childhood passion blossomed into a lifelong vocation, and he farmed faithfully until his retirement in 2008. In addition to farming, Roger worked with Vandale Silo Unloaders, and Hedland Barn Cleaners.

Roger was known for his strong work ethic and determination. When he set his mind to something, he saw it through. Outside of work, Roger enjoyed celebrating the Christmas season, assisting the Amish with transportation, and giving his time and talents to his church. A dedicated member of St. Matthew's Ev. Lutheran Church at South Ridge, Roger served faithfully on the church council and cherished being part of his faith community.

Roger will be remembered for his hardworking spirit, his quiet generosity, and the love he shared with his family and friends. He will be deeply missed by all who knew him.

Roger is survived by his sisters, Irene (Henry) Manson, Shirley (John) Midthum, Ruth (Robert) Wopat and Jaynie DeChant; nieces and nephews, Jonathan (friend, Cynthia), Stephanie, Chris and Amy; great nieces and nephews, Emily, Olivia, Jack, and Lilly.

He was preceded in death by his parents, and brothers-in-law, Henry, John and Robert.

A Private Family Memorial Service will be held on Saturday, October 11, 2025, 12:00 Noon at St. Matthew Ev. Lutheran Church 25525 County Highway P, Ontario (South Ridge). Pastor Zachary Meier will officiate. Burial will be in the South Ridge Lutheran Cemetery.
