Roger Jackson "Jack" Ellis

Roger Jackson "Jack" Ellis, age 91, passed away at his Jacksonville, AL home on Thursday, 13 November 2025. Jack was born in Milton, FL on 18 December 1933 to his loving parents, Ralph E. Ellis and Margaret Ellis. During his youth, he developed a fascination with radios and radio technology, which led to a lifelong hobby of restoring and repairing antique radios. He earned a B. S. in Electrical Engineering at the University of Florida in 1958 and worked as an engineer, designing radios, communications systems, and similar products during his career. He retired from Chrysler after 31 years and continued working as an independent subject matter expert for 10 more years for various companies.
In 1957, Jack's mother introduced him to Betty R. Hendrix of Geneva, AL, whom he married six months later (1958) and remained devoted to (34 years) until her death in 1992. The couple had two children, Roger Ellis of Valhermosa Springs, AL, and Karen Ellis Lagon Meridianville, AL, and moved to Huntsville, Alabama in 1962. Jack and Betty were blessed with two granddaughters, Amber E. Lagon-Kimborough (Stephen) and Sarah R. (Chael) Lagon-Couch (Adam). Later, he was favored with a second marriage (31 years) to Wilma H. Davis of Huntsville, AL.
Jack is survived by his current wife, children, grandchildren, stepchildren, Beth Smythe (Bob), Mike Davis (Brenda), and Kevin Davis (Barbara); and stepgrandchildren, who all loved him dearly. Jack also leaves behind his loyal and greatly treasured canine companion, Chewy, who he walked daily, rain or shine, until the day he left this world.
When living in Huntsville, Jack was very active at Willowbrook Baptist Church where he served as a deacon for a time and Whitesburg Baptist Church. More recently, he attended Westside Baptist Church after moving to Jacksonville, AL in August 2025. To the end, Jack loved and put his faith in God and Christ. He will be sorely missed by family, friends, and others whose lives were touched by his kindness and delightfully goofy sense of humor.
Visitation will be from 9:30 to 10:30 a.m. on Monday, November 17, 2025, at Laughlin Service Funeral Home. A graveside service will follow at 11 a.m. at Maple Hill Cemetery.
