My first job at the track was for Roger, he asked what do you know? I said horses I know, racing I don't, you're hired! He said. Thanks for the job Roger, you will be missed

Roger was one of a kind. A fair, honest, respected horsemen and as good a caretaker as anyone. His horses always looked the part and never had a hair out of place. He trained several horses for us over the years including Mystery Solved. Roger left us with many fun memories that we will always remember and cherish. Above all this, he was a wonderful family man with a great sense of humor. Our thoughts and prayers go out to Trish and the entire Engel family.
Sincerely,
Chris and Mike Combs/Blue and Gold Racing

We raced horses with Roger and Trish and Rick & Linda back in the late 80's in Grand Island, NE.
Roger and Trish were great neighbors and willing to help whenever or wherever requested, included our favorite memory of Roger helping us load a very green yearling on the farm to bring into Fonner to break. The horse got loose and went after Roger, around and around several big round bales! We eventual got him to the track, but it was a unique experience for all of us.
Roger was an amazing Horseman and an all-round GREAT guy.
The love he had for Trish and his family was palpable.
Words cannot express our sorrow for your loss of both Roger and Kendall.
With our deepest sympathy, Joe & Lisa Moss - Phillips, Nebraska

My condolences to the whole family. I spent a lot of years with him. Not only was he an amazing boss but also an amazing friend. We always had the time of our lives at the barn working together. I had the honor of watching his kids grow up and he did the same with mine. I will never forget all the pranks we would play on eachother all those years. My heart is broken to hear the news. I will forever cherish our time together Rogelio. - Javier Ruiz

When I first started training Roger always had advice or suggestions to help me out, even if I didn´t ask, lol! He really liked to give me heck now and then to keep me on my toes, to prepare me for the racetrack life. Really going to miss him, he will always have a special place in my heart. Most respect for him and his beautiful family that he loved so much. Prayers for Trish and the kids for such a tragic loss of a man with a big heart

What a sad story this is for Roger and his loving family. Roger was a respected, honest and hard-working man who left us way too soon. He trained our horse K Company; Roger and our horse have given us such tremendously warm memories. Sincere sympathies from Kay and Chris Kotulak - Grand Island, NE

Roger was one of the sharp trainers I ever rode for! He used to call me "Nollsy", would say" Nollsy, you went TOO FAST......again..... working that horse! You don´t win races in the mornings!! But we did win many races together , he will be missed

My son loved to dig in the mud outside the barns and Roger loved to encourage all his poor behaviors! We had a lot of laughs!! He will be missed!
