Roger Gordon Engel of Eden peacefully left this world on Tuesday, August 19, 2025, and is now walking with his Lord and Savior. He was born on November 14, 1944, in Fond du Lac to Alfred F. Engel and Dorothy E. (Schaefer) Engel Lavey. He spent his younger years growing up on a farm in Dotyville where he attended St. Michael’s School. From 1962 – 1966, he served in the United States Navy. On May 11, 1968, Roger was united in marriage with Gloria Gudex at Church of Our Savior in Fond du Lac. Roger and Gloria were blessed with four children: Lori, Tim, Shelly, and Tammy. Over the years, Roger was employed by Lefeber & Eiring Construction, Roblee Construction, Tom Ottery Milk Transit, and Joe Baumhardt Sand & Gravel.
Roger was a member of the Eden Firemen’s Association and an active member of the Eden Fire Department for 24 years, serving as chief from 1985-1992. In 2018, he was honored to participate in the Old Glory Honor Flight to Washington, D.C.
He is survived by his wife of 57 years, Gloria; Daughter Lori (Steve) Reilly and their children: Katie (Beau) Gellings, great-grandchildren Charlie and Maggie; Kelly (Jason) Keller, Baby Keller due February 2026; Jamie Reilly; Brittany Reilly. Son Tim Engel (Ann Marie Sztukowski) and his children Elicia (Aaron) Buch, Owen Engel, Evonna Engel. Daughter Shelly (Chad) Abler and their children Bennett, Madelyn, Silas Abler. Tammy (TJ) Julka and their children Jacob and Emma Julka. Sister Carolyn Immel, Brother John Engel. Sister-in-law Delores (Delbert) Haack, Brothers-in-law Don (Diane) Gudex and Gary (Jen) Gudex and many nieces, nephews, other relatives and friends.
Roger was preceded in death by his parents; stepfather John Lavey; grandson Tommy Reilly; father-in-law & mother-in-law Loren & Vera Gudex; sisters Dolores (Vernon) Schmitz, Mona Engel, Marianne (Bill) Timblin, Barbara Engel and brother Allan (Sheila) Engel; brother-in-law Gordon Immel.
A memorial service will be held on August 22, 2025, at 11:30 am at Hope Lutheran Church (260 Vincent St) with Rev. Dr. Phillip M. Enderle officiating. Visitation will be from 9:30 am until the time of service. Full military honors will be held following the funeral service. Cremation has taken place. Inurnment will take place at Ledgeview Memorial Park.
In lieu of flowers, memorials may be directed to Hope Lutheran Church, Eden Firemen’s Association, or Old Glory Honor Flight.
He so loved our God, our family, and our country. May he rest in peacefully in the arms of our Lord and Savior.
