Obituary published on Legacy.com by Friedrich-Jones Funeral Home on Jan. 14, 2026.
Roger L. Fiene, age 88, a U.S. Army veteran (1955–1958) and a resident of
Naperville, IL since 1956 (formerly of
Addison, IL), passed away peacefully on Monday, January 12, 2026, at Endeavor Health Edward Hospital in Naperville. He was born on September 3, 1937, in
Elmhurst, IL.
Roger was the beloved husband of the late Charlene B. Fiene (née Peters), whom he married on July 22, 1961, at Bethany Lutheran Church in Naperville. Charlene preceded him in death on January 16, 2025, after nearly 64 years of marriage. He was a loving father to Theresa (Mark) Dierking and Cynthia Fiene-Curfs, and a proud and devoted grandfather to Daniel Dierking, Emily Dierking, Laura (Michael) Kojsza, Benjamin Dierking, Victoria Sodeman, Lisa Curfs, Garrit Curfs, and Michael Curfs. He was the devoted son of the late Edmund and Selma (née Haberkamp) Fiene; dear brother of the late Dennis (the late Elizabeth) Fiene; and a fond cousin, uncle, great-uncle, and friend to many.
Roger grew up on farms in the Addison area, where his parents instilled in him the values of hard work, resourcefulness, and the importance of family. From an early age, he learned how to care for animals, work the land, and fix machinery-skills that stayed with him for life. He attended St. Paul Lutheran School in Addison and graduated from York High School in 1955. In 1956, his family moved to Naperville, where they owned and worked a farm on 83rd Street.
Roger proudly served his country in the United States Army from 1955 to 1958. His military service shaped the values he lived by-discipline, humility, faith, and service to others-and led to lifelong friendships. During his time in the Army, Roger was recognized for his excellence in marksmanship and his precision and skill in repairing equipment. Those talents never left him. For decades afterward, Roger was the person family and friends called when something needed fixing-especially if it involved anything mechanical.
After returning home from the Army, Roger went to work at United Auto in Aurora. In time, he and two partners purchased the business, renaming it United Auto Center. Roger served as the company's treasurer for more than 20 years, a role perfectly suited to his careful, detail-oriented nature.
Faith and family were always Roger's top priorities. A longtime and faithful member of Bethany Lutheran Church, Roger lived his faith quietly and consistently, not through words but through action. Bethany was where his marriage to Charlene began and where his life will now be remembered and celebrated.
Roger was stoic by nature and always put the needs of others before his own. His love language was acts of service, and he showed his love by simply being there-steady, dependable, and willing to help without being asked. When his daughters were growing up and deeply involved in music, Roger often joked that he "played chauffeur," faithfully driving them to lessons, rehearsals, and performances. He never complained and never missed a beat, seeing it as just another way to care for his family.
In later years, Roger found great joy in talking about his grandchildren. He loved sharing their accomplishments with anyone who would listen and took pride in watching God's blessings unfold in their lives.
Roger will be remembered for his quiet faith, steady presence, strong hands, and selfless heart. He was the pillar others leaned on, the one who fixed what was broken, and the example of a life lived in service to God and family. His legacy lives on through the many lives he supported, guided, and loved.
