Roger John Garrett, 77, of Cumming, GA passed away peacefully on March 21, 2024 surrounded by his family in his home. A Forsyth County native, Roger was always at home in the Chestatee community. He leaves behind a legacy of faith and a willingness to help others. Roger was a member of Harmony Grove Baptist Church.
Roger always enjoyed westerns, country and gospel music, hunting, fishing, working with his tractors, and shooting his firearms. While these things brought him pleasure, he adored his family. He was always Daddy to his daughters and Pawpaw to his four grandchildren. He loved his family with all his heart.
A veteran of the United States Army, Roger loved his country. After serving, he worked for the United States Postal Service in Gainesville, retiring after a 35 year career.
Roger is preceded in death by his parents Edward and Cora Garrett, father-in-law and mother-in-law Herbert and Margaret Cantrell, sisters Bonnie (Harlan) Atkins, Joanne (George) Morris, Doyce (Jesse) Perry, brother Doyle (Sarah) Garrett.
Roger is survived by his loving wife of almost 55 years, Elizabeth Garrett. He is also survived by his daughters, Amy Garrett, Laura (Craig) Richard, and his grandchildren, Tate Richard, Ben Richard, Cora Richard, and Ada Richard.
He also leaves behind brothers Frank (Joyce) Garrett, Jack (Barbara) Garrett, sister-in -law Patsy English, brother-in-law and sister-in-law, Charles and Dianne Cantrell along with numerous nieces and nephews.
The Garrett family would like to extend their appreciation to the precious nurses of NEGA Medical Center Hospice.
Graveside services will be held 4:00 p.m. Sunday, March 24, 2024 at Harmony Grove Baptist Church with Rev. Scott Sorrells and Rev. Craig Richard officiating. The family will receive friends Saturday, March 23 from 5:00 pm until 9:00 pm. and Sunday, March 24, from 12:00 p.m. until the time of the service.
