A Graveside celebration of life for Roger Graves will be 2:30 p.m. Monday, October 14, 2024, at Short Spring Cemetery with Pastor Sheryl White officiating. Arrangements are under the direction of Marshall Funeral Home of Alva.
Roger Gene Graves, son of the late Boyd LeRoy and Bobbie (Estes) Graves was born October 2, 1946, at Alva and passed away peacefully October 9, 2024, at Mercy Hospital in Oklahoma City at the age of 78 years and 7 days.
Roger attended Farry School during his elementary years, then Waynoka and Alva Schools. After school he began work in the oilfield working his way up to driller on the wells. Roger left the oilfield and began working for Baker Manufacturing. He later worked and retired from the Oklahoma Department of Transportation. Upon retiring, he began a mowing business, hiring his grandchildren as help and later acquiring the help of Jake, Austin, and Hunter.
On April 4, 1969, Roger married the love of his life, Jeannette Stauffer in Alva. To this marriage two sons were born: Dustin and Derick.
Roger loved spending time outside farming, hunting and fishing. He had a knack for making everyone laugh with his antics and amusing kids with his magic quarter trick. His pride and joy were his grandchildren. He spent many hours teaching them various trades such as welding, mowing, tractor driving, hunting and fishing. He was an avid Alva Goldbug/Ladybug Athletics fan and rarely missed any activities that included his children, grandchildren, nieces and nephews.
Besides his parents, Boyd and Bobbie, he was preceded in death by his son, Dustin Graves; his sisters, Donna Kohen and Connie Hada; and his brother, Bob Graves.
Roger is survived by his wife of 55 years, Jeannette; his son, Derick and wife, April; his grandchildren, Sylus, Clyce, and Myah Graves; his great grandson, Calvin LeRoy Graves, all of Alva; a brother, Mike Graves and wife, Myra, of Calumet; sisters, Carolyn Beagley and husband, Steve, Pat Ritter and husband, Jack, all of Enid, and Jan Graves of Goltry; brother in law, Jerry Kohen of Enid; sister in law, Coy Graves of Amarillo; along with numerous nieces, nephews, other relatives and many, many friends.
In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made through the funeral home to the Dustin Graves Memorial Scholarship.
