Roger J. Harrell, 73, of New Palestine passed away at 8:05am, Friday, November 11, 2022 at the Legacy of Springfield in Greenfield. He was born in Batesville on December 5, 1948, the son of Clayton and Irene Gnelle Cox Harrell. He was married to Phyllis (Jessica) Brown on March 26, 2009 and she survives. Other survivors include two sons Jake (Tiffany) Harrell of Merritt Island, Florida and Brad Harrell of Melbourne, Florida; two daughters Wendy (Robert) Stanley of Port St. Lucie, Florida and Christie Graham of Kenosha, Wisconsin; two step-sons Dan (Barb) Johnson of Indianapolis and Don (Joanne) Johnson of Avon; one step-daughter Dawn (Ron) Knapp of Tallahassee, Florida; 14 grandchildren and 3 great-grandchildren; one brother Marvin (Patty) Harrell of Holton. He was preceded in death by his parents and his brother Danny Harrell. Mr. Harrell grew up on the family farm near Holton and was a 1967 graduate of Holton High School. He received his Bachelor's Degree in accounting from Indiana University in 1971. Roger's working career spanned many years and he retired from Frontier Trucking in Indianapolis where he worked as the firm's accountant. Roger was an avid sports fan following the Indiana Hoosiers, Cincinnati Reds, and Indianapolis Colts and also enjoyed bowling, participating in various bowling leagues. Roger was a member of the Brookville Road Community Church in New Palestine. Funeral services will be held on Wednesday, November 16 at 12pm at the Hopewell Baptist Church with Roger's nephew Pastor Mitch Harrell and Pastor Hubert Nolan of the Brookville Road Community Church officiating. Burial will be in the Hopewell Cemetery. Visitation will be from 5pm to 7pm on Tuesday and will also be held at the Hopewell Baptist Church. Memorials may be given to the Hopewell Baptist Church or the Hope Center in Indianapolis in care of the Stratton-Karsteter Funeral Home in Versailles.
